What does the number of ounces on boxing gloves mean?
The weight of the glove, not the size of the hand. One ounce is around 28 grams: gloves marked 16 oz therefore weigh roughly 450 g / 1 lb each. The higher the number, the thicker the padding, which is why sparring is done in heavier gloves than bag work.
