Punching bag hanging kit
Ceiling hooks, beam plates, chains, straps and swivels to hang a punching bag or a speed bag
The essentials: everything that links your bag to its support. 304 stainless ceiling hooks rated to 500 kg or cast iron to 250 kg, a side plate for an exposed beam to 400 kg, no-drill straps to wrap around a beam or a branch, 4-strand chains with a built-in swivel, a carabiner swivel and a speed bag swivel. Fixings supplied on most models, free standard shipping.
This is the part of the installation chosen fastest and regretted longest. A 40 kg bag in motion transmits forces to its support well beyond its static weight: every punch creates a jolt, and it is those repeated jolts, not the weight, that make cheap fixings fail.
Before buying, one question really matters: what support do you have? Our guide on how to hang a punching bag runs through every home configuration.
🔩 The anchor point
Ceiling hooks. The SUS 304 stainless hook is our reference: up to 500 kg, 5 hook models — two of them with 360° rotation — and above all wood and concrete fixings supplied together, so you do not have to choose before probing your ceiling. The black cast iron hook, up to 250 kg, is a more economical and more discreet alternative on a dark ceiling.
Plate for an exposed beam. The angle mounting plate fits to the side of a beam, where a hook screws in underneath. It is the answer when the underside is boxed in or out of reach. Three fixing points, up to 400 kg, double swivel and pin shackle included.
Straps, without drilling. The polyester straps wrap around a beam or a tree branch and lock through their own loops. No drilling, no fixings, no tools, up to 300 kg, in 5 lengths from 24 to 64 cm. The renter's and the outdoor trainer's solution.
⛓️ The link between anchor and bag
4-strand chains. The 304 stainless chains spread the load across four straps and already include their 360° swivel. About 44 cm tall, five carabiners. The most versatile solution: it combines height adjustment link by link with rotation.
Carabiner swivel. The screw-gate carabiner swivel replaces the chain: each strap clips onto its own carabiner, the whole assembly pivots, and everything unclips by hand. More compact and silent, in 3 sizes depending on how many straps your bag has.
Shock absorber spring. The spring, offered as an option on our stainless hook, sits between the hook and the bag. It absorbs the force peak at impact, which spares the anchor and reduces the vibration passed into the structure — and therefore to the neighbours.
🥊 For the speed bag
The 360° swivel with plate is a part of its own: a speed bag only rebounds properly if it pivots freely on every shot. On a fixed hook the strap twists and the rhythm breaks by the third punch. Round 9.6 cm four-hole plate, pin shackle, fixings supplied.
📊 Which fixing for which support?
| Your support | Solution | Load | Drilling |
|---|---|---|---|
| Concrete slab or beam accessible from below | Stainless 304 hook | 500 kg | 2 holes |
| Same, home bag, tight budget | Cast iron hook | 250 kg | 2 holes |
| Beam accessible only from the side | Side plate | 400 kg | 3 holes |
| Beam or branch, no drilling possible | Straps | 300 kg | None |
| Anchor already in place, linking the bag | 4-strand chains | — | None |
| Same, silent and compact | Carabiner swivel | — | None |
| Speed bag | 360° swivel | — | 4 holes |
No usable support at all? Look at our punching bag wall mounts if you have a load-bearing wall, or our free standing punching bag frames, which stand on the floor with no drilling whatsoever.
🧱 What to drill into, and with what
- Concrete slab or beam: the safest support. Use metal expansion anchors — supplied with our stainless hook.
- Solid timber beam: excellent hold with coach screws, provided you aim at sound wood, with no split or through knot. Self-tapping screws are also supplied with the stainless hook.
- Plasterboard false ceiling: absolutely ruled out, whatever the hook. No fixing holds a punching bag in plasterboard.
- Hollow brick or stud partition: to be avoided. Go for straps around a beam, or a free standing frame.
The weak link is never the fixing, it is the support. The stated loads apply to the parts themselves: the load your installation can actually take depends entirely on the strength of your ceiling or beam and the quality of the anchoring. If you are unsure what your support is made of, call in a professional. And check the tightness after the first few sessions and periodically: vibration loosens assemblies.
❓ Frequently asked questions
Which fixing should I choose for my punching bag?
It depends entirely on your support. On a concrete slab or a beam accessible from below, a ceiling hook. On a beam accessible only from the side, a side plate. If you cannot drill, wrap-around straps. And if no support will do, a wall mount or a free standing frame.
Can a punching bag be fixed into plasterboard?
No, never. Plasterboard will not hold a punching bag, however light, and no hook compensates for an inadequate support. Probe your ceiling to find a beam or a concrete slab, or choose a no-drill solution: straps around an exposed beam, or a free standing frame.
What load should I allow for?
Far more than the weight of the bag. A heavy home bag rarely exceeds 60 kg and a 180 cm club bag stays under 100 kg, but every punch creates a jolt that multiplies the force passed to the support. Our fixings are rated 250 to 500 kg for that reason: that is the margin you want on a part suspended above somebody.
What is a swivel for?
To let the bag turn on itself without the chains or straps twisting. Without one, every move around the bag adds a twist and you have to unwind everything by hand regularly. Our 4-strand chains already include one, and two of our ceiling hooks come in a 360° rotating version.
How do I reduce noise in a flat?
It is the vibration passed into the structure that bothers neighbours, more than airborne sound. Three levers: a shock absorber spring between hook and bag, suspension by carabiner swivel rather than chain, which removes the metallic rattle, and a cushioning mat under the bag.
Chains or carabiner swivel?
A chain lets you adjust the height of the bag link by link, and already includes its swivel: the most versatile choice. A swivel on its own is more compact and silent, but offers no height adjustment. Many people combine the two: chain at the top for height, swivel just above the bag.
Are the fixings supplied?
On most models, yes. Our SUS 304 stainless hook goes further: it contains both the self-tapping screws for a timber beam and the expansion anchors for a concrete slab, so you do not have to choose before probing your ceiling.
At what height should a speed bag be fixed?
The swivel, meaning the pivot point, sits at forehead height, so that the bottom of the bag arrives between the chin and the mouth with the fists up in guard. Too high and you punch skywards and lose your base; too low and you break your posture. Work it out before drilling — holes cannot be undone.
Stainless or cast iron?
Cast iron is enough for a home bag, costs less and is more discreet on a dark ceiling. SUS 304 stainless goes to 500 kg, resists the damp of a cellar or a garage, and comes in a 360° rotating version. If you hit heavy, if the room is damp or if you circle the bag, take stainless.
