🥊 Why amateurs box in a vest and professionals bare-chested
It is the most visible difference between the two worlds, and it surprises a lot of beginners. In amateur and Olympic boxing, the vest is part of the regulation outfit; in professional boxing, the torso is bare.
The reason lies in how points are counted. In the amateur ranks the scoring zone is defined: above the belt, on the front and sides of the torso and the head. The vest materialises that zone and the top of the short's waistband marks the lower limit. Judges and referee get two markers legible from outside the ring, even under the lights.
Identification adds to it: both boxers wear the colours of their corner. That is why a boxing outfit always exists in red and blue, the two corners assigned in a ring, the other two being neutral and white.

👶 The outfit that starts at 95 cm
One model in the collection is not chosen by garment size but by height: the satin outfit with a first name is indexed on the wearer's height in centimetres, which lets it cover a child of 95 cm and 13 kg and an adult of 1.84 m on a single reference.
| Size | Maker's marker | Height | Recommended weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| XXS | 100 | 95 to 104 cm / 3'1"-3'5" | 13 to 18 kg / 29-40 lb |
| XS | 110 | 105 to 114 cm / 3'5"-3'9" | 15 to 20 kg / 33-44 lb |
| S | 120 | 115 to 124 cm / 3'9"-4'1" | 18 to 25 kg / 40-55 lb |
| M | 130 | 125 to 134 cm / 4'1"-4'5" | 20 to 30 kg / 44-66 lb |
| L | 140 | 135 to 144 cm / 4'5"-4'9" | 30 to 40 kg / 66-88 lb |
| XL | 150 | 145 to 154 cm / 4'9"-5'1" | 40 to 50 kg / 88-110 lb |
| XXL | 160 | 155 to 164 cm / 5'1"-5'5" | 50 to 60 kg / 110-132 lb |
| XXXL | 170 | 165 to 175 cm / 5'5"-5'9" | 60 to 70 kg / 132-154 lb |
| 4XL | 180 | 175 to 184 cm / 5'9"-6'0" | 70 to 85 kg / 154-187 lb |
The maker states a tolerance of 1 to 3 cm. If height and weight do not fall on the same line, follow the height: it is the length of the short and the vest that decides comfort, the elasticated waist absorbing the difference in waist size.
📅 A boxing licence can be taken from age 6
The French Boxing Federation issues an educational assault licence from age 6, with no upper age limit — the federation sums the practice up as from 6 to 77. What sets this form of boxing apart is not the technique, which is identical, but the power: you touch, you do not hit. A boxer who strikes hard, or shows the intention to, can be disqualified with no prior warning.
Bouts are fought over three rounds separated by a minute of rest, and never pit two boxers more than two years apart in age. The minimum competition weight is 15 kg in the youngest categories.
🎨 Kitting out a whole club
The custom outfit is produced by sublimation: the design is embedded in the fibre rather than laid on the surface, so it does not crack with use. Logo positions front and back, 8 sizes from XS to 4XL, which lets a whole batch be produced in the same design.
The Esprit Boxe amateur outfit is the ready-to-wear version of the same set, supplied with Esprit Boxe marking, in 3 colourways and 5 sizes from XS to XL. It is worn in competition by partner clubs, and several images on its page are photographs from fights, not studio renders.
🧵 Two fabrics, two functions
On the Creed-style sets, the jacket and the short are not in the same fabric, and that is not a manufacturing accident.
The jacket of the Creed 3 set is in matte knit: the surface grips slightly, it does not slide off the shoulders and it holds heat during the warm-up. The short is in satin: a smooth surface an opponent's glove slides over, a fabric that does not hold sweat and hangs straight without clinging to the thighs.
The Creed 2 set makes a different choice: jacket and short are both in satin, with a blue lined hood scattered with white stars. It is the only set in the catalogue whose jacket is glossy across its whole surface.
❓ Frequently asked questions
Why is a vest worn in amateur boxing?
Because the scoring zone is defined: above the belt, on the front and sides of the torso and the head. The vest materialises that zone and the top of the short's waistband marks the lower limit, giving judges two markers visible from outside the ring. In the professional ranks, the torso is bare.
From what age can you box?
The French Boxing Federation issues an educational assault licence from age 6, with no upper age limit. In educational boxing you touch without hitting: power is prohibited. The minimum competition weight is 15 kg in the youngest categories. Rules vary by country — check with your own federation.
What size boxing outfit for a child?
Follow the height, not the age. The satin outfit with a first name is indexed on the wearer's height: it starts at 95-104 cm in XXS and rises in 10 cm bands to 4XL, which covers 175-184 cm. The full table, with recommended weight, is higher up this page.
Are the short and the vest sold together?
Yes on the three English boxing outfits: the price shown covers both pieces. On the two Creed sets, a selector lets you choose the jacket and short together, the short alone or the jacket alone.
Can an outfit be printed with a club logo?
Yes, with the custom outfit, produced by sublimation: the design is embedded in the fibre and does not crack with use. Logo positions front and back, 8 sizes from XS to 4XL, which lets a whole batch be kitted out.
What is the difference between the Creed 2 and Creed 3 outfits?
The jacket. On Creed 2 it is in glossy white satin with red and blue trim and a starred lined hood, and the short has a plain waistband. On Creed 3 it is red in matte knit with no marking, and the short's waistband carries CREED embroidered in gold thread.
