MMA cage: octagon, hexagonal, platform, sanctioned and made to measure

The essentials: Esprit Boxe designs, manufactures and delivers professional MMA cages for clubs, gyms, federations and event organisers. From the floor-level cage to the competition cage on a platform, taking in octagonal, hexagonal and circular formats, folding models, hybrid ring and cage structures and the FMMAF-sanctioned cage: welded steel frame, padded panels, hydraulically tensioned mesh and full customisation (dimensions, colours, logo). Quote, scale plan simulation and assembly support included.

The cage is the heart of any MMA gym. It is where grappling, wall-and-stall work and cage escapes are trained, and where show nights happen. Whether you are fitting out an MMA club, a multi-discipline gym, a federation or staging an event, you will find here a structure built for safety, strength and longevity.

Before launching your project, our complete MMA cage buying guide sets out formats, regulation dimensions, budgets and the points to check before ordering.

🥋 The types of MMA cage

Quick-assembly cage. The quick-assembly cage is our entry-level solution: plain unpadded mesh, assembled with bases and clamps. Accessible and functional for training, it is neither sanctioned for competition nor covered by a warranty.

Panel cage. The panel cage is the most accessible welded octagon: padded panels laid on the floor, without matting. The best entry point to a club-grade cage.

Floor-level cage. The floor-level cage is an octagon set directly on the floor, with integrated Flexi-Roll matting. The daily working tool of clubs.

Hexagonal floor cage. The hexagonal floor cage takes the 6-sided format, floor-set with Flexi-Roll matting. An alternative octagon, more compact in some halls.

Folding cage. The folding cage folds away on castors to free the floor in minutes: ideal for multi-purpose halls.

Cage on a platform. The platform cage is raised 30 cm to 1 m, dressed with PVC or cotton canvas and a skirt: the show visibility required for competitions and professional photography.

FMMAF-sanctioned competition cage. The FMMAF-sanctioned cage meets the specification of the French MMA Federation: Ø 7 m octagon, 100 × 100 mm posts, 900 g/m² M2 PVC canvas. Built for official events in France.

Hexagonal and circular cages on a platform. The hexagonal platform cage adopts the 6-sided format popularised by certain international organisations. The circular cage offers a round wall with no blind corners, for fluid fighting and a unique look.

Octagonal competition cage. The competition cage is an octagon on a platform with a perimeter sidewalk, designed for shows and official bouts.

Cage with backlit sidewalk and TV platforms. The full-options cage adds a backlit sidewalk and TV platforms fixed to the posts, raised positions for camera operators shooting over the panels. The centrepiece of a major event.

Hybrid MMA cage and boxing ring. The hybrid cage combines an MMA cage and a boxing ring in a single structure. If boxing is your dominant discipline, look instead at our boxing rings.

📐 How to choose your MMA cage

Three criteria guide the choice: use (training, competition, events), space available and budget. On dimensions, the Ø 7 m octagon is the competition standard; more compact formats exist for training.

🛡️ Safety, standards and warranties

  • Welded steel frame with anti-corrosion treatment: absolute stability, even under the heaviest work.
  • 50 mm mesh, galvanised plastic-coated core with anti-abrasion finish, hydraulically tensioned to a standard resistance of 500 N/mm² (maximum rebound 10 cm): a burn-resistant wall that takes takedowns.
  • Padded panels (tubular frame, foam and coated cover), with posts and angles protected by corner pads.
  • FMMAF sanctioning available on the dedicated competition cage, for official MMA events in France.

On warranties, our welded padded cages are covered 10 years on the structure, 2 years on the corners and 2 years on the matting. The FMMAF-sanctioned cage carries a 5-year structural warranty. The entry-level quick-assembly cage is neither sanctioned nor covered by a warranty.

🎨 Customisation in your club's colours

  • Your logo and your sponsors printed on the matting, the canvas, the sidewalk and the padding.
  • Choice of colours (black, white, blue, yellow and more) for padding, corner pads and covers.
  • Bespoke dimensions, from a training format to the Ø 7 m competition octagon.

A cage does not stand alone: the warm-up area, the grappling zone and the surrounding walls are part of the same gym project.

❓ Frequently asked questions

What is an MMA cage?

A mesh enclosure, set on the floor or on a platform, in which MMA bouts take place. Most often octagonal — hence the name octagon — it generally consists of 8 mesh panels, a door built into one panel, post padding and corner pads at the junctions.

Octagon, hexagon or circular: what is the difference?

The octagon is the emblematic MMA format. Because the term Octagon is a registered trademark of the UFC, other organisations have adopted neighbouring formats: the hexagon (used by the PFL and formerly Strikeforce) and the circular cage (Bellator). At Esprit Boxe all three formats are available; the choice comes down to aesthetics and space.

What size cage should I choose?

The Ø 7 m octagon is the competition standard. For a club, more compact formats work very well for training. Leave a circulation margin around the cage; we advise on the ideal size for your hall.

Floor-level cage or platform cage?

A floor-level cage is economical and ideal for daily training. A platform cage, raised 30 cm to 1 m, gives the show visibility of galas and broadcasts, and gets fighters used to competition conditions — in exchange for a markedly higher budget.

Are your cages sanctioned?

Our dedicated competition cage is sanctioned to the FMMAF specification, for official MMA events in France. The other cages suit training and events; the entry-level quick-assembly cage is not sanctioned.

What warranty comes with a cage?

Welded padded cages are guaranteed 10 years on the structure, 2 years on the corners and 2 years on the matting. The FMMAF-sanctioned cage is guaranteed 5 years on the structure. The entry-level quick-assembly cage carries no warranty.

Can the cage be customised with our colours and logo?

Yes. Logo and sponsors printed on the matting, the canvas, the sidewalk and the padding, colours of your choice, and bespoke dimensions. The cage becomes a genuine communication surface.

What should be planned around the cage?

A warm-up and grappling area, ideally in smooth vinyl tatami or unrolled Flexi-Roll, and wall padding on the walls near the training zone. Structural posts inside the area are made safe with a padded sleeve. These elements are part of the same gym project and are available in this collection.

Can a bespoke fighting or fitness zone be delimited?

Yes. Beyond cages, Esprit Boxe designs bespoke spaces with mesh or solid panels, to delimit a fighting area or a fitness space. Present your project to info@esprit-boxe.com: we produce a scale plan simulation and a precise quote.

Do you deliver and support assembly?

Yes. We deliver clubs, federations and organisers across Europe, the United Kingdom, North America and Australia. Every cage comes with its instructions and assembly plan, designed to fit together easily, and our teams stay available to support you.
