Speed bag
Boxing speed bags: 7 models from 25 to 30 cm, PU or genuine leather, with or without a swivel
The essentials:7 speed bags from 25 to 30 cm, plus a Ø 60 cm wall platform. Three of them come with their swivel, one with its pump, one in genuine leather. The principle to remember: the smaller the bag, the faster it comes back and the less it forgives. Free standard shipping across the collection.
A speed bag trains neither power nor weight transfer — that is the heavy bag's job. It trains rhythm, hand-eye coordination, shoulder endurance and relaxation. It is what separates heavy boxing from fluid boxing, and the reason it has stayed a gym staple for a century.
🎯 How to choose your speed bag
One criterion dominates: size. A wide bag offers a generous belly, a readable trajectory and time to reset the hand between shots — it is the format on which you learn the triple rebound and hold full rounds. A narrow bag displaces less air, gathers less momentum and comes back faster: it punishes dead time and demands precise placement, but it builds pure speed.
The full chart matching format, rebound speed and level lives on the Esprit Boxe speed bag page — that is our reference page on the subject.
Second criterion: do you already have a swivel? Without one, no speed bag can be hung. Three models in the collection include it as standard, the others pair with our hanging kits.

🔧 Mounting: swivel, plate and platform
A speed bag hangs by its loop from a bearing swivel, itself screwed under a rigid support. That part, far more than the bag, determines how clean the rebound is: a swivel that turns freely through 360° sends the bag back on its axis, a seized swivel deflects the trajectory and makes the triple rebound impossible to hold.
If your wall is not equipped yet, the Ø 60 cm wall platform offers a 4 cm thick wooden board on a steel frame, height adjustable over 30 cm, swivel and fixings included. You can also order the swivel on its own from our hanging kits.
📏 Installing and setting up
Set the support so that the belly of the bag sits between your mouth and your eyes, in guard position. To start out, go slightly lower: the shoulders tire less and the technique stays clean for longer.
All our speed bags ship deflated; inflate through the valve until the surface is firm but still gives slightly under the thumb. An over-inflated bag goes dead, rebounds unpredictably and strains its seams.
🧼 Care
PU leather cleans with a damp cloth and no oily product: wipe the shell after sweaty sessions and check the lacing tension regularly, because a neck that stretches costs the bag its symmetry.
Genuine leather asks for more: a dry cloth after use, leather milk once or twice a year in a thin coat, and never drying near a heat source.
🥋 Beyond the speed bag
Four other tools train speed and timing differently. The uppercut bag, hung by straps, is dedicated to uppercuts and short hooks. The 50 cm round bag takes heavier shots while keeping a fast return. The wall punching ball on a 360° rotating arm, height adjustable and supplied with gloves and pump, adds slipping to the striking.
Finally, the double end bags — strung between floor and ceiling — is the only one that comes back straight at your guard: where the speed bag builds rhythm and shoulder endurance, that one trains accuracy, timing and upper body slipping. The two are complementary.
❓ Frequently asked questions
What size speed bag should I choose?
The smaller the bag, the faster it returns and the less it forgives a timing error. To learn the rhythm of the triple rebound and hold long sets, choose a large 30 cm format. To work pure speed once the rhythm is there, a narrow profile of 13 cm across suits better. Our models cover the whole range, from 25 to 30 cm in height.
Do I need a swivel and a platform?
A swivel is essential: without one the bag cannot be hung or pivot. Three models in the collection come with their fixing. A platform is not compulsory: the swivel plate can be screwed directly to a beam or a concrete ceiling, provided the support is rigid.
At what height should a speed bag be installed?
Set the support so the belly of the bag sits between your mouth and your eyes, in guard position. A beginner will gain from setting it slightly lower: the shoulders tire less and the technique stays clean for longer.
Speed bag or heavy bag: what is the difference?
The heavy bag builds power and weight transfer. The speed bag trains hand speed, rhythm, hand-eye coordination and relaxation. The two are complementary: without a speed bag, boxing turns heavy; without a heavy bag, it lacks impact.
Speed bag or double end bag?
The speed bag is fixed under a wall platform and rebounds off the board: it trains rhythm, coordination and shoulder endurance. The double end bag, strung between floor and ceiling, comes straight back at the face and trains accuracy, timing and upper body slipping. The second is closer to ring sensations, but it needs two anchor points.
PU or genuine leather?
PU leather needs nothing more than a damp cloth and copes well with sweat: the practical choice for regular or club use. Genuine leather offers a firmer, more matte feel and develops a patina, but demands ongoing care. One model in the collection is in animal leather.
Does a speed bag work your cardio?
It keeps the heart rate high over time, but its main benefit remains coordination and shoulder endurance, with the arms held high continuously. For genuine cardio work, a skipping rope is more effective.
