What the gold lettering on a Thai short says
The gold lettering running across the thigh is written in the Thai alphabet. It is an abugida: each sign is a consonant carrying an implied vowel, modified by other marks placed above, below, before or after it. That is where the stacked-line look comes from.
Thai is also written without spaces between words, which gives the script its continuous graphic run. On a fight short the lettering most often carries the name of the training camp, or the name of the discipline itself.
Here the lettering falls on the green upper thigh, above the break. The red below leaves the gold line entirely legible, with no competing motif.
What the shorts look like
Two-tone ground: green across the top, red below, separated by a clean break. Broad gold scrollwork in stylised flames, outlined in white, covers the upper thigh and runs down along the openings. The gold Thai lettering sits on the left thigh.
The wide elastic waistband is red and green. Satin finish.
Why Thai shorts are so often two-tone
Two-tone is not only a styling choice in Thai camps: two strong colours let a fighter be picked out from the seats and on a broadcast, where a single flat colour merges into the ring behind.
Here green takes the top and red the bottom, split by a clean break that the gold scrollwork crosses. For a solid ground, see the panelled Muay Thai short.

Worth knowing: green over red is the highest-saturation pairing in the range — both colours hold their own, so neither reads as a trim on the other.
Getting the size right
The two-tone break falls at mid-thigh whatever the size: the proportion holds from XS to 4XL. Beyond that, the point that causes most ordering errors: Thai-made shorts run small and most guides tell you to size up. Not here. This is a European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where most of the market stops at XXL. In a groin guard, go one size up.

Frequently asked questions
Can the gold lettering peel off in the wash?
No: it is stitched down onto the satin rather than glued. The stitching holds the motif. Wash at 30 °C / 86 °F inside out, air dry, and keep an iron off the gold.
What size Muay Thai shorts should I get?
Take your usual size. These are cut to European sizing, so the standard advice to order one size up — which applies to Thai-made shorts — does not apply here. Eight sizes run XS to 4XL. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.
What does the Thai writing on the shorts say?
Thai script on a fight short usually carries the name of the training camp or the name of the discipline. The alphabet is written without spaces between words, which gives it its continuous run.
Can you wear Muay Thai shorts for boxing?
Yes. The short leg and high split take nothing away from footwork, and plenty of boxers train in them. The one difference is the low-blow line: boxing shorts mark it with a waistband above the navel, Thai shorts do not.
Do these come in big and tall sizes?
Yes, up to 4XL. Most of the market stops at XXL on a pair of Thai shorts.
How do you wash Muay Thai shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and never put an iron directly on the design. Skip the fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
