What the gold lettering on a Thai short says
The gold lettering running across the thigh is written in the Thai alphabet. It is an abugida: each sign is a consonant carrying an implied vowel, modified by other marks placed above, below, before or after it. That is where the stacked-line look comes from.
Thai is also written without spaces between words, which gives the script its continuous graphic run. On a fight short the lettering most often carries the name of the training camp, or the name of the discipline itself.
On this model the lettering sits on the brown upper thigh, the only occurrence of that shade in the Muay Thai range: the gold reads warmer there than it does against a bright ground.
What the shorts look like
Two-tone ground: brown across the top, bright green below, separated by a clean break. Broad gold scrollwork in stylised flames, outlined in white, covers the upper thigh and runs down along the openings. The gold Thai lettering sits on the left thigh.
The wide elastic waistband is green. Satin finish.
A clean two-tone break, and where it falls
The line between the brown above and the green below does not fall at random: it sits at mid-thigh, at the height where the leg bends in guard. In movement the line follows the action instead of cutting across it, which a break set lower does not.
The gold scrollwork crosses that line and ties the two colours together. For a solid ground with no two-tone break, see the panelled Muay Thai short.

Getting the size right
The two-tone break falls at mid-thigh whatever the size: the proportion holds from XS to 4XL. Beyond that, the point that causes most ordering errors: Thai-made shorts run small and most guides tell you to size up. Not here. This is a European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where most of the market stops at XXL. In a groin guard, go one size up.

Frequently asked questions
Is the gold lettering embroidered or appliquéd?
It is a metallic film appliquéd and stitched down onto the satin, not printed. It keeps its shine at 30 °C / 86 °F washed inside out; do not put an iron directly on it.
What size Muay Thai shorts should I get?
Take your usual size. These are cut to European sizing, so the standard advice to order one size up — which applies to Thai-made shorts — does not apply here. Eight sizes run XS to 4XL. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.
What does the Thai writing on the shorts say?
Thai script on a fight short usually carries the name of the training camp or the name of the discipline. The alphabet is written without spaces between words, which is what gives it its continuous run.
Can you wear Muay Thai shorts for boxing?
Yes. The short leg and high split take nothing away from footwork, and plenty of boxers train in them. The one difference is the low-blow line: boxing shorts mark it with a waistband above the navel, Thai shorts do not.
Do these come in big and tall sizes?
Yes, up to 4XL. Most of the market stops at XXL on a pair of Thai shorts.
How do you wash Muay Thai shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and never put an iron directly on the design. Skip the fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
