The shape says it before you switch anything on: it is an octagon. Not a circle, not a square - the outline of the cage. Inside the crystal, the UFC logo and the mesh of the fencing hang in suspension, as if caught in ice. Then you press the button on the end cap and the whole thing lights: blue, purple, green, red, cyan, the light travelling through the faceted cut until the engraving becomes an object of light.
Engraved inside the material, not printed on the surface
That is the whole difference from a printed keyring. Here the design is written inside the crystal by laser: thousands of micro-points created beneath the surface, composing the logo and the fencing in three dimensions. Nothing can rub off, scratch away or peel - there is nothing on the surface to damage. And it is what lets the LED light it from below.
The octagon, in faceted cut crystal
The edge of the crystal is bevelled on each of its eight faces. That is not decoration for its own sake: those facets catch the light from the LED and throw it back out at the edges instead of letting it pass straight through. Without them the object would be lit; with them it glows.
The crystal is mounted on a cylindrical metal end cap holding the electronics and the batteries, extended by a chain and a key ring of a usable diameter - the kind you open without breaking a fingernail.
The light: colour-changing, and a torch
The button sits on top of the metal cap, under the ring. One press lights the colour-changing LED housed at the base of the crystal. Beyond the decorative effect it works as a back-up torch: enough to find a lock in the dark, read a locker number or light the bottom of a gym bag.

This is the first thing to check on any light-up keyring, and nine times out of ten it settles it: the batteries ship in place but separated by a small clear insulating film, so the LED does not drain in transit and storage.
Unscrew the metal cap under the ring, pull out the film, screw it back. The keyring lights. It is a transport safeguard fitted by the manufacturer, and it takes five seconds.
Worth knowing before you buy
This is crystal. It is what gives the engraving its depth and lets the LED travel through the material. Crystal asks in return to be kept clear of falls onto tile or concrete. For a keyring built to take anything without a thought, our cast metal models play that card; this one sits between an accessory and a display piece.
The LED runs on button cells. Its life is counted in cumulative hours lit rather than in months: it is a back-up and effect light, not a work lamp. Avoid leaving the button pressed continuously in a pocket.
The crystal keeps its clarity. The engraving is internal: it will not move, whatever happens at the surface. Many people keep this one on a gym bag or a locker key rather than on the car keys, where its facets stay crisp and catch the light best.
Care
A dry or barely damp microfibre cloth on the crystal, as you would for glasses. Keep glass cleaners and solvents away from the metal cap. Never immerse the keyring: the electronics and the batteries sit in the cap, which is not sealed.
Frequently asked questions
The keyring will not light. What should I do?
Almost every time, a clear insulating film has been left between the batteries to protect the charge in transit. Unscrew the metal cap under the ring, remove the film, screw it back and it works. If it still does not, write to us.
Can the logo fade over time?
No. The UFC logo and the fencing are not printed on the surface but laser engraved inside the crystal as micro-points. There is nothing on the surface that can wear, scratch or peel.
Does the LED change colour?
Yes, it is a colour-changing LED: the crystal runs through blue, purple, green, red and cyan. Moving from one colour to the next is what brings the object alive, with the faceted cut scattering each shade differently.
Are the batteries included?
Yes, the batteries are included and already fitted in the metal cap. The keyring works from the moment you open the box, once the transport film has been removed.
Does it arrive ready to give?
