The essentials: an Esprit Boxe two-piece competition kit — a vest with wide armholes and matching shorts with white side stripes, on a wide black elasticated waistband with a woven label. The official Esprit Boxe logo and the FOR THE GLORY motto on the chest and on the leg of the shorts. 3 colourways: black, red, blue. 5 sizes, XS to XL. €49 the set, free delivery.
Why amateurs box in a vest and professionals bare-chested
It is one of the most visible differences between the two worlds, and it surprises a lot of beginners: in amateur and Olympic boxing, the vest is part of the regulation kit. In professional boxing, the torso is bare.
The reason lies in how points are scored. In the amateur code the scoring area is bounded: above the belt, on the front and sides of the torso and the head. The vest marks out that area and the top of the shorts waistband marks its lower limit. Judges and referee therefore have two markers visible from outside the ring, even at a distance and under the lights.
On top of that comes an identification rule: the two boxers wear opposing colours, those of their corner. That is why this type of kit always exists in red and blue — the two corners assigned in a ring.
The set
The vest: round neck, wide armholes dropping low on the ribs to clear the shoulder entirely, straight cut. The official Esprit Boxe logo and the FOR THE GLORY motto sit high on the chest, on the left.
The shorts: boxing cut, wide black elasticated waistband carrying a woven label with the official Esprit Boxe logo, white vertical stripes down the sides running to the hem, and the same logo printed at the bottom of the right leg. Side vents at the base of the stripes.
The 3 colourways
Black with white stripes and a white logo. Red with white stripes and a white logo. Blue with white stripes and a white logo. On all three the shorts waistband is black and the label is stitched at the centre.
Worn in competition
This kit is not a studio render: several of the images on this page are fight and training photographs, including boxers from Boxing Club Fribourg and its Val-de-Travers branch, in the red and blue versions. You see the kit in real conditions, gloves and wraps on, between the ropes.

Your size
Five sizes, XS to XL. The maker publishes no measurement chart for this model, so no numeric conversion is given here.
The rule of thumb: a competition kit is worn close. A loose vest gets grabbed in the clinch, and shorts that are too wide slide down over the rounds. Take your usual size, without going up. The top of the shorts waistband should sit above the navel: it is what marks the lower limit of legal punches.
Good to know: for a kit in your club's colours and logo, the custom boxing kit is made by sublimation, with your logo placements front and back, and goes up to 4XL.

Frequently asked questions
Are the shorts and the vest sold together?
Yes. The €49 price covers both pieces, matching vest and shorts, in the colourway and size chosen.
Why do amateurs wear a vest in boxing?
Because the scoring area is bounded there: above the belt, on the front and sides of the torso and the head. The vest marks out that area and the top of the shorts waistband marks its lower limit, giving judges two markers visible from outside the ring.
Why does this kit exist in red and blue?
Because the two boxers wear the colours of their corner, and a ring has a red corner and a blue corner. It is an identification rule, not a style choice.
What size should I take?
Your usual size, without going up. A competition kit is worn close: a loose vest gets grabbed in the clinch and wide shorts slide down over the rounds. Five sizes, XS to XL.
Can it be personalised with a club logo?
Not this model, which carries the Esprit Boxe marking. For your own colours and logos, the custom boxing kit is sublimated to order and goes up to 4XL.
How do you wash a competition kit?
Machine at 30 °C / 86 °F, inside out, no tumble dryer, and no iron on the logo. Wash after every session: sweat degrades elastic faster than wear does.
