Everyone knows Ali. Frazier is the man who beat him first.
Smokin' Joe
Olympic champion at Tokyo in 1964, Joe Frazier took the world heavyweight title in 1970. His style was the opposite of Ali's: he came forward and did not step back, took shots to get inside, worked the body, then landed his left hook — one of the most feared in the sport's history.
That constant pressure is where the nickname comes from: Smokin' Joe, the man who never stops coming.
He fought Muhammad Ali three times:
- 1971 — he won on points over fifteen rounds at Madison Square Garden. Both men were unbeaten
- 1974 — Ali took the rematch on points
- 1975 — the Thrilla in Manila, stopped before the fifteenth round in crushing heat
The rivalry defined a whole decade of boxing.
What it looks like on
The artwork sits at the centre of the chest, in black and white, over three tiers.
At the top, JOE FRAZIER in white capitals. At the bottom, SMOKIN' JOE in the same lettering.
Between them, a rectangular photograph with hard edges: Frazier in street clothes, wide-brimmed hat, collared shirt, looking into the lens. No gloves, no ring, no belt.
The framing is that of a street portrait, not a fight photograph — which sets this artwork apart from every other boxer tee in the catalogue.
Premium cotton, crew neck, short sleeves, straight cut. Plain back.
