How the artwork works
The line is that of a heart monitor: a steady horizontal trace, punctuated by spikes at each beat.
At the centre, where the tallest spike should be, a pair of red boxing gloves takes the place of the signal.
It is a familiar device in sportswear, and it says something simple: boxing is not an activity, it is what makes the heart beat. The red of the gloves is in fact the only colour element — the trace itself stays grey.
The same motif exists in a women's cut among the seven artworks on the women's tee, but treated entirely in black line, with no colour.
