In the landscape of French-speaking Swiss boxing, Boxing Club Fribourg holds a place of its own. Built on a shared passion and carried by an ambitious vision, it is today the largest boxing club in the canton of Fribourg — and one of the most dynamic clubs in western Switzerland. Michaël Celeschi: building a community
Behind Boxing Club Fribourg there is one man and one vision. Michaël Celeschi, a former Elite boxer with around thirty amateur bouts, never left the sport. After hanging up the gloves he decided to put his experience to work on something bigger than himself: creating a genuine boxing community in Fribourg.
With a group of friends who shared the same passion — among them Martin Humbert, a former professional basketball player with Fribourg Olympic, Christophe Chatagny and Joël Porchet — he founded Boxing Club Fribourg. Fifteen months of searching and negotiating to find the premises, four months of building work to fit out a 350 m² gym in the centre of town, with a raised ring at its heart and a long line of punching bags along the walls.
The bet paid off. The club now has more than 140 members, with 14 classes a week, a Boxing Academy for young people from age 7, and a women's class. Michaël Celeschi has achieved what few founders manage: turning a passion into an institution.
His ambition does not stop at the club doors. As co-founder of Alpine Boxing Promotion alongside James Fenu of Yverdon and Ricardo Pereira of Geneva, he works to develop professional boxing in western Switzerland, convinced that Swiss boxing has the talent to make its mark internationally.

Swiss boxing has a future — and Esprit Boxe believes in it
Boxing Club Fribourg is affiliated to SwissBoxing, the Swiss boxing federation. Within months of the first licences being issued, the club's athletes had already contested 28 bouts. A rapid rise that reflects the quality of the coaching delivered by Michaël Celeschi and his team.
Esprit Boxe is present across western Switzerland — from clubs to amateur boxers, by way of champions such as Mehdi Ben Hamira, Swiss heavyweight champion. Boxing Club Fribourg fits naturally into the ecosystem we are building, gym by gym, champion by champion.
