Our most demanding model. These competition gloves use the traditional filling of professional fight gloves: horsehair. Experienced boxers recognise it in the first few seconds. Cowhide shell, black and gold finish. A fight pair, not an all-purpose training glove.
Horsehair: the fighters' padding
Unlike foam, horsehair is a traditional filling — denser and firmer. It returns more of the real feel of the shot, and it compacts and moulds to your hand round after round until the pair becomes yours alone. It is the padding of choice in professional competition for that direct touch and power transfer. It gives less of a cushion effect than foam, so these gloves suit experienced boxers, for fights and intensive preparation. For more protective cushioning day to day, see the multi-layer foam version below.
A genuine cowhide shell
The shell is genuine cowhide, chosen for strength and longevity. It takes repeated compression without cracking and patinates over time. The black and gold contrast and the official Esprit Boxe logo finish the pair.

Frequently asked questions
What is horsehair padding?
A traditional filling, denser and firmer than foam, used on professional fight gloves. It returns more of the feel of the shot and moulds to the hand over time.
Horsehair or foam: which should I choose?
Horsehair gives a firmer, more direct touch, favoured in competition. Multi-layer foam gives more cushioning and protection, better for frequent or less intensive use.
Are these boxing gloves suitable for beginners?
They are aimed at experienced boxers and competition, because of the horsehair and the lacing. A beginner is better served by a velcro glove with foam padding.
What oz boxing gloves are used in competition?
8 or 10 oz as a rule, though the exact weight depends on your weight class and your federation's rules. 12 to 16 oz is for training and sparring.
