Crowned bear t-shirt

The essentials: the bear was not chosen by Russia — it was assigned to it by European cartoonists, then taken up and owned, until it became the mascot of the 1980 Moscow Olympics. On this tee it wears a gold crown and a Russian flag bandana. Premium cotton 180 gsm, crew neck, heat transfer print. Black, 7 sizes S to 4XL, €29, free shipping.
No fighter, no organisation logo, no slogan: this tee carries a symbol and nothing else. The bear for power, the crown for the title, the flag for the origin. It is the garment for someone who prefers an emblem to a portrait.
A symbol given from outside, then turned around
The Russian bear was not born in Russia. It appears first in European cartoons, where British illustrators drew the tsarist empire as a heavy, slow, dangerous animal. It was mockery as much as warning.
Russia eventually took it over. In 1980, when Moscow hosted the Olympics, it chose Misha as its mascot — a bear cub. A symbol imposed from outside became a claimed signature.
That reversal is what gives the artwork its meaning: an animal drawn to be a caricature, wearing a crown.
The code: bear, crown, flag
The crown does not only make it strong, it makes it king. The bandana belongs to the streetwear vocabulary: it covers, and it states an allegiance without having to shout it.
Together the three give an artwork that reads in a gym and on the street alike, without depending on a name or a current fight. It will not date at the next change of champion.
What it looks like on
The bear's head takes the upper chest, drawn head on, staring, in a greyscale treatment that shows the detail of the fur and the folds of the muzzle.
On the skull, a tilted gold crown with ball-tipped points. Below the eyes, a knotted bandana covers the muzzle and falls in a wide point across the chest: its three bands take the Russian flag — white at the top, blue in the middle, red at the bottom.
The bandana takes up nearly as much room as the head itself, and it carries all the colour in the artwork: on black, the clean blue and the red read from a long way off, where the greys of the fur appear up close.
The black of the tee serves as the ground for the drawing: no frame, no outline, no text.
Premium cotton, crew neck, short sleeves, straight cut. Plain back.
The detail that matters: black is the only colourway, and it is what holds the artwork together: the fur is drawn in dark greys that anchor into the fabric, so the animal appears to come out of the garment rather than sit on it. On a light ground it would need an outline — here it does not.
Worth knowing: this artwork is an emblem, not a portrait — it does not depict any fighter. If you are looking for a tee carrying Khabib Nurmagomedov himself, with his papakha and his belt, that is the Khabib Nurmagomedov champion tee.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the bear a symbol of Russia?
The symbol came from outside: European cartoonists were the first to draw the Russian empire as a bear — heavy, slow and dangerous. Russia later took it up as its own, to the point of making Misha the mascot of the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
Does this t-shirt depict Khabib Nurmagomedov?
No, it is an emblem: no portrait, no name, no organisation. For a tee carrying Khabib himself, with his papakha and his belt, see the Khabib Nurmagomedov champion tee.
Why does this model only come in black?
Because the fabric is part of the design: the fur is drawn in dark greys that anchor into the black, with no outline. The bear appears to come out of the garment, and that is what gives the artwork its depth.
Does the artwork read from a distance?
Yes, thanks to the bandana: it takes up nearly as much room as the head and carries the blue and red of the flag, visible from a long way off. The greys of the fur and the detail of the muzzle appear up close — two levels of reading.
Which size should I take?
Standard European cut: take your usual size. Seven sizes, S to 4XL, with the chest running from about 96 cm / 38 in to 132 cm / 52 in.
