What it looks like on
The artwork is a black and white face close-up, centred high on the chest, seen three-quarters on, eyes turned to the side.
The treatment plays on tone against tone: the shadows of the face and the background of the photograph pick up the blacks of the fabric, with no frame and no outline. Forehead, bridge of the nose, cheekbone and chin come forward in light grey — that modelling is what draws the face.
