The essentials: a pro boxing groin guard in real leather, in black or white, with a built-in wide belt and rear lace closure. It combines high-density foam, reinforced stitching and just 330 g / 11.6 oz, with an elastic rear section that leaves the hips completely free. Built for sparring and competition in boxing, kickboxing, muay thai and MMA. 4 sizes, S to XL (waist 76 to 100 cm / 30 to 39 in) — €69 whichever colour, free standard shipping.
Lower protection is the piece of kit you only notice when it is missing. This guard is drawn for regular sparring and club preparation: an anatomical cup in real leather covering the groin and lower abdomen, extended by a wide belt that spreads the load across the hips rather than onto a thin waistband. The result is that it stays put round after round, with no riding up and no chafing.
Pro guard or anatomical guard: the difference
The market splits into two families. The anatomical guard — often called a slip guard — is a light cup held by a thin elastic or built into an undergarment. It covers starting out, light-contact martial arts and occasional use.
The pro guard is built on a wide belt. That is the configuration professionals and clubs use: it covers more, holds without shifting through consecutive rounds and stands up to hard sparring. This Esprit Boxe model belongs to that second family, with real leather on top.
Wide belt and rear lacing: a hold that stops moving
Retention rests on two things. First a wide belt that sits against the pelvis and spreads pressure over a large area — which is what avoids the tourniquet feeling of a thin strap. Then a central rear lacing, which lets you set the tension to the millimetre according to your build and the thickness of the compression shorts underneath. You adjust once, tie off, and leave it for the session.
An elastic crotch strap locks the assembly from below and stops the cup tipping forward on slips and changes of stance.
Elastic rear section: protection without restriction
A guard that is too rigid holds back footwork. Here the rear section is elastic: it follows the rotation of the hips on hooks and uppercuts, allows flexion on low slips, and moves with the boxer. Protection is concentrated where it is useful — at the front — and gets out of the way everywhere else.
Real leather, high-density foam and reinforced stitching
The front cup is faced in real leather, and that changes everything over time. It takes the friction of gloves and repeated impacts, stretches slightly to follow the shape of the wearer, and develops a patina over the seasons. Inside, the high-density foam absorbs and disperses the energy of shots to the belt line. The whole thing is built with reinforced stitching at the stress points — cup-to-belt joint, lace eyelets, strap anchors.
It all weighs just 330 grams / 11.6 oz: substantial enough to reassure, light enough to be forgotten after two rounds.
Black or white: two colours, one build
The black and white versions are strictly identical: same real leather, same wide belt, same rear lacing, same weight, same price. The choice is purely visual.
Black is the most discreet and the easiest to keep looking clean day to day. White takes up the classic look of professional boxing kit and stands out against dark shorts.

Frequently asked questions
How do you choose a groin guard size?
On waist measurement: S to XL covers 76 to 100 cm / 30 to 39 in. The rear lacing gives real adjustment on top, so a size covers a range rather than a single figure.
Is this guard real leather?
Yes, the front cup is real leather, not synthetic, in both colours. It takes glove friction and repeated impact, stretches slightly to follow your shape and develops a patina over the seasons.
Is a groin guard compulsory in competition?
For men, yes, in amateur and professional boxing alike, and in most kickboxing and MMA rulesets. Check the exact requirement with your federation, since the approved formats differ.
Is it worn under or over the shorts?
Under, directly over compression shorts, with the boxing shorts covering it. The wide belt sits at the waist, which is why the shorts have to go on afterwards.
How much does it weigh?
330 g / 11.6 oz. That is substantial enough to reassure and light enough to be forgotten after two rounds — the elastic rear section is what keeps it from restricting the hips.
How do you look after real leather?
Wipe it with a slightly damp cloth after a session and let it air dry away from a radiator. Never soak it: leather stays supple as long as it is not dried out or saturated. The white takes a slightly more frequent wipe than the black.
