The essentials: an anatomical boxing groin guard, the simplest and most accessible lower protection. Moulded impact-resistant cup under a PU shell, held by wide elastic bands adjusted with hook-and-loop, reinforced stitching. Machine washable from 30 °C / 86 °F. 5 sizes, for heights from 110 to 190 cm / 3 ft 7 in to 6 ft 3 in — child to adult. White. €19, free standard shipping.
Not everyone needs a laced-belt guard. To start out, for a children's class, for martial arts with moderate contact, or simply to keep a second guard in the bag, this anatomical model does exactly the job: it protects, it stays put, it does not show under the shorts, and it washes.
Moulded cup and PU shell
Protection comes from a moulded impact-resistant cup, anatomically shaped to follow the lower abdomen with reinforced coverage over that area. The cup sits inside a soft PU shell that keeps the plastic off the skin.
It is held by wide elastic bands, adjusted with hook-and-loop, which spread the tension without creating a pressure point. This is the lightest and least visible format: the guard is forgotten by the end of the warm-up and does not restrict movement. The stitching is reinforced at the elastic-to-cup joints.
Size guide: child to adult
This guard is chosen on height, not waist measurement. Five sizes cover 110 to 190 cm / 3 ft 7 in to 6 ft 3 in, which equips a child in a beginners' class as well as an adult.
| Size | Height | Typical wearer |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 110 – 130 cm / 3 ft 7 – 4 ft 3 | Child |
| S | 130 – 145 cm / 4 ft 3 – 4 ft 9 | Child |
| M | 145 – 160 cm / 4 ft 9 – 5 ft 3 | Teenager |
| L | 160 – 170 cm / 5 ft 3 – 5 ft 7 | Adult, small build |
| XL | 170 – 190 cm / 5 ft 7 – 6 ft 3 | Adult |
Guide: if your height falls exactly between two sizes, take the larger. The hook-and-loop bands easily make up a few centimetres, whereas a guard that is too short compresses and rides up under effort. It is also the right call for a growing child.
Machine washable at 30 °C / 86 °F
This guard goes in the machine from 30 °C / 86 °F, which settles the hygiene question on a piece of kit worn against the body several times a week. No particular precautions are needed.
For clubs that lend equipment, or for parents kitting out a child, that is often the deciding argument.
Anatomical or pro guard: which one
This anatomical guard is held by wide elastic hook-and-loop bands, comes in 5 sizes from child to adult and goes in the machine at 30 °C / 86 °F. The pro guard in real leather adds a wide belt with rear lacing and coverage that bears on the hips, in adult sizes.
If you go through hard sparring rounds every week, the wide belt holds better over time. For everything else, this model does the job.

Wearing and caring for a groin guard
- Under the shorts, over the underwear: the guard goes directly over briefs or compression shorts, then the shorts cover it.
- Set the hook-and-loop standing up: the bands should be taut without marking the skin. A guard pulled too tight becomes painful by the second round.
- Check the cup position: it should be centred and sit up over the lower abdomen, not stay low on the groin.
- For a growing child: take the size up. The hook-and-loop adjustment makes up the difference.
Frequently asked questions
How do you choose a groin guard size?
On height, not waist. Five sizes cover 110 to 190 cm / 3 ft 7 in to 6 ft 3 in. If you fall between two, take the larger: the hook-and-loop bands make up a few centimetres, while a short guard compresses and rides up.
Is there a groin guard for children?
Yes. XS and S cover 110 to 145 cm / 3 ft 7 in to 4 ft 9 in, which fits a child in a beginners' class. For a growing child, take the size up and adjust with the bands.
Does it really go in the machine?
Yes, from 30 °C / 86 °F, with no particular precautions. On a piece of kit worn against the body several times a week, that settles the hygiene question.
What is the difference with a pro belt guard?
Retention and coverage. This one holds with wide elastic bands and covers the groin and lower abdomen. A pro guard adds a wide belt with rear lacing that bears on the hips, for hard sparring.
Is it suitable for karate, taekwondo and MMA?
Yes. The anatomical format suits any discipline with moderate contact, and the light build does not restrict footwork. For weekly hard sparring, a belt guard holds better over time.
Is a groin guard compulsory in training?
Most clubs require one as soon as sparring starts, and federations require one in competition. Check your club's rules, since requirements differ between amateur and professional.
