The essentials: Tyson Fury stands 2.06 m / 6 ft 9 in and beat Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 for his first world title — then stopped for almost three years before coming back a champion. This tee carries his nickname, The Gypsy King, and his belts in gold lettering on black. Premium cotton 180 gsm, crew neck, heat transfer print. Black, 7 sizes S to 4XL, €29, free shipping.
Not to be confused with Mike Tyson: Tyson Fury is a British heavyweight, born in 1988, and Tyson is his first name.
Why he is called Tyson
Tyson Luke Fury was born on 12 August 1988 in Manchester, severely premature — under a kilo / two and a half pounds at birth, with his chances rated slim. His father, a former boxer, named him Tyson after Mike Tyson, then the reigning world champion.
He comes from an Irish Traveller family, a community he identifies with publicly — hence the nickname The Gypsy King, which he chose himself.
2015, then the break
On 28 November 2015 in Düsseldorf, Fury beat Wladimir Klitschko on points and took the WBA, IBF and WBO titles. Klitschko had been unbeaten for eleven years.
Then Fury disappeared. He vacated the belts, put on more than sixty kilos / 130 lb, and went through a long period of depression and addiction he has spoken about openly since.
He returned to the ring in June 2018, and became WBC champion in February 2020 by beating Deontay Wilder. It is one of the most discussed comebacks in heavyweight history.
What it looks like on
The print is entirely typographic, in gold, centred on the chest in a circular layout.
Three stars open at the top. Below, TYSON FURY in arched capitals, framed by two more stars. At the centre, The Gypsy King in a broad cursive script over two lines — the largest element in the artwork.
Under it, the titles line in small capitals: WBA · IBF · LINEAL HEAVYWEIGHT · WBO · IBO. Then five stars, and MADE IN ENGLAND set very small.
Gold on black gives a result close to the gold leaf signwriting of English pub frontages — that register rather than gym kit.
Premium cotton, crew neck, short sleeves, straight cut. Plain back.
