Focus mitts are the coach's working tool. This Esprit Boxe model is built to serve both ends of the exercise: giving the boxer a clean target and an honest feedback on impact, and protecting the wrists, elbows and shoulders of whoever is holding. A real leather build, plain, black and gold, made for sessions that run back to back.
Real leather: the material that lasts
The outer shell is real leather, standing up to friction and the repeated abrasion of gloves. Leather takes the thousands of impacts of a season without cracking or losing its shape, which makes it the material for mitts held several times a week.
A plain striking face
The impact face is entirely black, with no printed target. That is the classic format for coaching work: the boxer reads the position of the mitt rather than a drawn marker, which matches the real conditions of a bout. If you would rather have an aiming point to correct the alignment of the fist, the Gold Edition carries a round central target, on the same build.
High density padding and shock absorption
Inside sits a high density moulding that delivers strong shock absorption. The wave of the punch is damped before it reaches the coach's hand and joint: fewer vibrations, less fatigue by the end of the session, and honest feedback for the boxer, who genuinely feels the quality of the impact.
Ergonomic gusset and hand hold
The gusset follows the shape of the hand for a comfortable, stable grip. The hand closes naturally on the target, without clenching, which lets you hold a full round without losing precision. At the back, an adjustable tightening strap pulls the mitt against the hand: the target does not move on impact, even through fast combinations.
Mesh lining: comfort over time
The mesh lining moves sweat away inside the mitt. Across pad sessions run with several boxers, that is what keeps the hand from slipping and stops damp and odours setting in.

Getting the most out of pad work
- Fixed target, locked wrist: present the mitt and meet the punch slightly rather than striking back against the fist.
- Short combinations: 3 to 5 shots (jab, cross, hook) beat long, loose series.
- Simulated counters: send a mitt back towards the boxer to make them keep their guard up and slip.
- Care: wipe the leather with a dry cloth after each session and let it air dry, never on a radiator.

How do they differ from the Gold Edition focus mitts?
The build and the price are identical: real leather, high density moulding, mesh lining. The design differs on three points. This model is black with gold marking and a plain striking face. The Gold Edition uses a metallic gold finish with black piping, carries a round black target at the centre of the striking face and an ESPRIT marking with stars along the edge. Take this one for plain, classic work, the Gold Edition if you want an aiming point for precision.
What is the difference between focus mitts and Thai pads?
Focus mitts are small and held in the hand: they serve punch work, precision and speed. Thai pads are longer and thicker, strap onto the forearm and absorb the kicks and knees of muay thai and MMA. Many clubs own both.
Does real leather genuinely change anything?
Yes, on working life. Real leather keeps its suppleness and its surface under the repeated friction of gloves, season after season. For a coach holding several sessions a week, that is the deciding criterion.
Do you need gloves to strike them?
Yes. Pad work is done with hand wraps and boxing gloves, generally 10 to 14 oz. Striking bare-handed exposes the knuckles, even against a padded target.
How do you look after them?
Wipe the leather with a dry cloth after each session, air the inside and let it dry at room temperature. Avoid the washing machine, soaking and direct heat, which harden and crack leather.
