Ali Heavyweight Champion tee

- Regular price€29,00

The essentials: 1964, 1974, 1978 — three times heavyweight champion of the world, with three and a half years banned from boxing in the middle for refusing the draft. This tee sets the three dates under a training photograph, with the words HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION. Premium cotton 180 gsm, crew neck, heat transfer print. Black, 7 sizes S to 4XL, €29, free shipping.
Three figures, fourteen years apart, and between the first two a career that should have ended.
What the three dates carry
1964 — At twenty-two, as Cassius Clay, he beat Sonny Liston in Miami Beach and became heavyweight champion of the world. Nobody had seen it coming.
In between — In 1967 he refused induction for the Vietnam War. His title was stripped, his licence suspended, and he did not fight for over three years, from twenty-five to twenty-eight — the years a heavyweight is at his peak.
1974 — At thirty-two, he took the title back from George Foreman in Kinshasa, by knockout in the eighth. The fight entered history as the Rumble in the Jungle.
1978 — At thirty-six, he took it a third time from Leon Spinks, seven months after losing it to him. He became the first fighter to win the heavyweight world title three times.
What it looks like on
A three-tier composition, over the full height of the chest.
Top: MUHAMMAD · ALI in small spaced capitals, framed by two red stars, then HEAVYWEIGHT in large, slightly worn white capitals.
Centre: a black and white photograph — Ali three-quarters on, bare chested, hands wrapped in white, eyes down, mid-session. The dark background melts into the fabric.
Bottom: CHAMPION in large capitals, then 1964 · 1974 · 1978 with red dots between the dates and a red star either side.
Everything is white and grey on black, with red only on the stars and the dots. It is the one Ali tee that gives a record in figures rather than an image or a line.
Premium cotton, crew neck, short sleeves, straight cut. Plain back.
