Golden Boy Promotions tee

The essentials: an Olympic gold medal promised to his mother in 1992, then in 2002 the rare move of a fighter who founds his own promotional company to get to the side of the table where contracts are signed. This tee carries Oscar De La Hoya's GOLDEN BOY logo. Premium cotton 180 gsm in white, heat transfer print. 7 sizes S to 4XL, €29, free shipping.
This is not a tee with a fighter's face on it. It is the logo of a boxing company — and not just any one.
Wearing it states a camp rather than a champion.
A medal promised to his mother
The nickname belongs to Oscar De La Hoya. He earned it at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics: at nineteen, he brought back the only American boxing gold of those Games.
What made that win famous went beyond the result. His mother had died of cancer two years earlier; he had promised her the medal. He stepped onto the podium and dedicated it to her. The country had its Golden Boy.
The fighter who crossed to the other side of the table
Ten years later, in 2002, he founded Golden Boy Promotions. The move is rare: boxing is a sport where promoters have almost never been fighters.
That is structural. Historically a boxer signs contracts drafted by other people, fights for purses set by other people, and watches the larger share of the revenue go elsewhere. Plenty of champions have ended up broke after fights that generated fortunes.
By building his own company, De La Hoya moved a fighter to the side where contracts are signed — and the company went on to promote some of the biggest names of its generation, Canelo Álvarez among them.
That is what this logo says: not only winning in the ring, but taking back control of the business.
What it looks like on
The words sit on two lines in very heavy black capitals, closed top and bottom by two gold bars that frame the block like a crest. At the centre of BOY, the O is replaced by a gold ring holding a silhouette of a boxer in guard.
The gold is an aged, matte gold, with no shine: that is what keeps it out of flashy territory and gives the block the look of an engraved plate rather than a glossy logo.
Three values only — deep black, aged gold, the white of the tee. The result reads at ten metres / thirty feet while staying restrained up close. This is the boxing tee that goes into town without looking like a sports jersey. White is the only colourway: the black lettering and the gold only take their full strength on a light ground.
Premium cotton, crew neck, short sleeves, straight cut. Plain back.
The detail that matters: the print is applied by heat transfer onto a PET film. That is decisive here: the boxer's silhouette fits inside the thickness of a letter, and the process keeps it clean instead of closing it into a blot. The print stands up to wear and does not fade easily in the wash. Care: machine wash at 30 °C / 86 °F inside out, no fabric softener, no tumble dryer, do not iron the print. Wash the white on its own for the first few washes.

Frequently asked questions
What is Golden Boy Promotions?
A boxing promotional company founded in 2002 by Oscar De La Hoya. It stages fights and manages a stable of boxers — it promoted Canelo Álvarez, among others.
Where does the Golden Boy nickname come from?
From the Olympic gold medal Oscar De La Hoya won in Barcelona in 1992, at nineteen. He had promised it to his mother, who had died of cancer two years earlier, and dedicated it to her on the podium.
Why is it rare for a boxer to become a promoter?
Because the two jobs have historically been separate. A fighter signs contracts drafted by other people and fights for purses set by other people — plenty of champions have ended up broke after fights that generated fortunes. By founding his own company, De La Hoya moved a fighter to the side where contracts are signed.
Does it come in other colours?
White only: the black lettering and the aged gold take their full strength on a light ground.
How is the artwork applied?
By heat transfer onto a PET film, a different process from direct digital printing. It keeps the boxer's silhouette clean where it fits inside the thickness of a letter, and stands up to wear without fading easily in the wash.
Which size should I take?
Standard European cut: take your usual size. Seven sizes, S to 4XL, with the chest running from about 96 cm / 38 in to 132 cm / 52 in.
