Headguards left amateur boxing in 2013
The headguard had been compulsory in men's amateur boxing since 1984. In 2013, AIBA removed it for elite men, after studies indicating that the headguard increased the size of the target and the frequency of concussions rather than reducing them.
It remains compulsory for women, for juniors and in most club competition. This canvas shows a fight without one.
What you see
Two boxers face each other, each framed from one edge of the set, gloves reaching towards one another. The boxer on the left is seen in profile, a red and white glove thrown to the right; the one on the right takes the punch, head turned, red glove drawn in.
The centre panel is entirely black: it separates the two men. Drops of sweat and orange particles float in the space. The ground is black across the full width. From 3 m / 10 ft you see two pale masses either side of a void; from 1 m / 3 ft the drops and the lacing separate.

How to hang a 5 panel canvas
The five panels go side by side: the image is continuous and reassembles in one piece. Put up the centrepanel first, its middle 145 cm / 57 in from the floor, then add the panels in pairs eitherside, checking the level at each pair. A paper template on the wall before drilling saves redoing the holes.
The width rule is the same as for a single canvas: the set covers about two thirds of the width ofthe furniture below it. The size chart by wall type gives the full size-to-placement table.

Frequently asked questions
What size 5 piece canvas should I choose?
The five panels are hung side by side, so what counts is the total width — 50, 100, 150 or 200 cm / 20, 39, 59 or 79 in depending on the grid — not the size of a single panel. Allow the second grid above a chest of drawers, the 30 × 40 grid above a three-seater sofa, and the 40 × 60 grid on a clear wall over three metres / 10 ft.
How do I hang a canvas in 5 parts?
Start with the centre panel, its middle 145 cm / 57 in from the floor, then add the panels in pairs either side, checking the level at each pair. A paper template on the wall before drilling saves redoing the holes.
Does it arrive ready to hang?
Two options in the selector. Without frame: the panels ship rolled in a protective tube with a white border, to be mounted on stretchers. With frame: they arrive already mounted on wooden stretchers, ready to hang. The five stretcher kit covers the panels sold on their own.
Why do amateur boxers no longer wear headguards?
AIBA removed them for elite men in 2013, after studies indicated the headguard increased the size of the target and the rate of concussion rather than lowering it. They remain compulsory for women, juniors and most club competition.
Are the 5 panels sold together?
Yes. The price covers the five panels, and the grid chosen applies to the set: the panels are not sold separately and ship together.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
