Boxing once held a fictional funeral
Ashita no Joe, published from 1968 to 1973 by Asao Takamori and Tetsuya Chiba, is the manga that installed boxing in Japanese culture. When the character Tōru Rikiishi died in the story, in 1970, a real funeral was held in Tokyo, with a monk and hundreds of readers present.
The series opened a whole genre, from Hajime no Ippo launched in 1989 to contemporary illustrations like this one.
What you see
A drawn illustration in manga style, clean lines and saturated colour. A young blonde woman, hair in a high ponytail, is framed to mid torso at the centre, leaning forward with both arms stretched along the ropes.
She wears a turquoise top marked HOPE and turquoise mitts with a star on them. A red gloved hand enters the frame on the right panel. The red ropes cross the image on the diagonal. From 3 m / 10 ft you see turquoise on dark red; from 1 m / 3 ft the lettering and the star come through.

How to hang a 5 panel canvas
The five panels go side by side: the image is continuous and reassembles in one piece. Put up the centrepanel first, its middle 145 cm / 57 in from the floor, then add the panels in pairs eitherside, checking the level at each pair. A paper template on the wall before drilling saves redoing the holes.
The width rule is the same as for a single canvas: the set covers about two thirds of the width ofthe furniture below it. The size chart by wall type gives the full size-to-placement table.

Frequently asked questions
What size 5 piece canvas should I choose?
The five panels are hung side by side, so what counts is the total width — 50, 100, 150 or 200 cm / 20, 39, 59 or 79 in depending on the grid — not the size of a single panel. Allow the second grid above a chest of drawers, the 30 × 40 grid above a three-seater sofa, and the 40 × 60 grid on a clear wall over three metres / 10 ft.
How do I hang a canvas in 5 parts?
Start with the centre panel, its middle 145 cm / 57 in from the floor, then add the panels in pairs either side, checking the level at each pair. A paper template on the wall before drilling saves redoing the holes.
Does it arrive ready to hang?
Two options in the selector. Without frame: the panels ship rolled in a protective tube with a white border, to be mounted on stretchers. With frame: they arrive already mounted on wooden stretchers, ready to hang. The five stretcher kit covers the panels sold on their own.
Which manga launched boxing in Japan?
Ashita no Joe, published from 1968 to 1973. When the character Tōru Rikiishi died in 1970, a real funeral was held in Tokyo with a monk and hundreds of readers. The series opened the genre that Hajime no Ippo continued from 1989.
Are the 5 panels sold together?
Yes. The price covers the five panels, and the grid chosen applies to the set: the panels are not sold separately and ship together.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
