The essentials: an oval double end bag, 40 cm high by 20 cm wide / 16 x 8 in, in synthetic leather with reinforced seams and lacing. It tensions between floor and ceiling on two elastic cords with built-in returns, striking height adjustable from 1.80 m to 2.20 m / 5 ft 11 in to 7 ft 3 in. Supplied with 2 fixing hooks and 1 pump. Available in 6 colours at the same price of €29, free standard shipping.
The ball measures 40 cm high by 20 cm wide / 16 x 8 in: a target stretched vertically, which takes the jab and the hook alike and stays readable as the pace rises. The striking height adjusts from 1.80 m to 2.20 m / 5 ft 11 in to 7 ft 3 in through loops on the cords, and it comes in 6 colours.
What a double end bag actually trains
It is not a power tool, it is a timing tool. Three qualities move fast on three sessions a week:
- Accuracy: the target moves and does not forgive a badly lined-up fist.
- Timing and reading the path: the return is regular but never quite identical, which forces anticipation.
- Upper-body slipping: the ball comes back at face height, and the only way not to take it is to get off the line — exactly as against an opponent.
That is the fundamental difference with a platform speed bag, which mainly trains rhythm and shoulder endurance without ever threatening the face.
Setting the height and the tension
Set the height first, then the tension. The centre of the ball should sit between the chin and the eyes with the guard up: that placement is what makes slipping compulsory. The built-in returns on both cords cover a striking height of 1.80 m to 2.20 m / 5 ft 11 in to 7 ft 3 in, which suits almost every adult build.
Cord tension changes the behaviour of the ball completely: the tighter they are, the faster the return and the smaller the travel. The three settings — soft, medium and firm — are set out in the tension settings chart, which applies to every Esprit Boxe double end bag.
Fitting: what to plan for
Assembly needs no tools, but it does need two anchor points, one in the ceiling and one in the floor. The two hooks supplied screw into a solid support; in a rental or on a tiled floor, the lower point can be replaced by a heavy weight fitted with a ring — a cast-iron disc or a dumbbell. Without a lower point the bag does not tension and the tool does not work.
Allow about a metre / three feet of clearance around the ball so you can get off the line without hitting a wall. Inflate with the pump supplied: the ball should feel firm while keeping a little give under the thumb, since over-inflating stiffens the rebound and tires the lacing.

Good to know: this ball trains speed and timing: you are after the frequency of contact, not power — that rhythm is what builds slipping and repositioning. The cover is synthetic leather, which holds its shape and wipes clean with a damp cloth. At 40 cm / 16 in tall it wants clear space around the striking point; under a low ceiling, a compact format fits better.

Frequently asked questions
What size double end bag should I choose?
The bigger the ball, the easier the target and the more readable the rebound. This model, 40 cm high by 20 cm wide / 16 x 8 in, offers a wide target suited to learning as much as to long combinations. A smaller ball makes the target more demanding.
What is the difference between a double end bag and a speed bag?
A double end bag is tensioned between floor and ceiling and comes back at face height, which forces slipping. A speed bag hangs under a platform and rebounds off the board: it trains rhythm and shoulder endurance, without ever threatening the face.
At what height should it be installed?
The centre of the ball should sit between the chin and the eyes with the guard up. That placement is what makes slipping compulsory. The built-in returns cover 1.80 m to 2.20 m / 5 ft 11 in to 7 ft 3 in of striking height.
Do I have to drill the ceiling and the floor?
You need two anchor points. The hooks supplied screw into a solid support; the lower point can be replaced by a heavy weight with a ring, such as a cast-iron disc. If drilling is out of the question, the suction cup model fixes without a single hole.
How do you adjust the speed of the return?
Through cord tension: the tighter they are, the faster the return and the smaller the travel. Three settings — soft, medium, firm — are described in the tension settings chart.
How do you inflate and look after the ball?
With the pump supplied, through the valve. The ball should feel firm while keeping a little give under the thumb: over-inflating stiffens the rebound and tires the lacing. Wipe the cover with a damp cloth after a session.
