The essentials: « prime Tyson » means one precise stretch: 1986 to 1990, from the first title at twenty to the night in Tokyo. Thirty-seven fights, thirty-seven wins. This tee shows him full length, in fight kit, under THE BADDEST MAN ON THE PLANET set in an arc. Premium cotton 180 gsm, crew neck, heat transfer print. Black, 7 sizes S to 4XL, €29, free shipping.
The other Tyson tees show a face or a torso. This one shows him standing, whole, ready to walk to the ring.
What « prime Tyson » actually means
The term marks the stretch when a fighter is at his peak. With Tyson it is easy to date: it opens on 22 November 1986, when he takes the WBC title at twenty, and closes on 11 February 1990 in Tokyo.
Between those dates he is unbeaten in thirty-seven fights, holds all three major belts at once and finishes Michael Spinks in 91 seconds in the most anticipated fight of the decade.
Then comes Buster Douglas, a 42-to-1 underdog. Tyson is knocked out in the tenth. He would hold the WBC title again in 1996, but never with that grip on the division.
What it looks like on
The artwork sits at the centre of the chest, in a vertical composition.
Tyson is shown standing, facing forward, full length: bare chested, red gloves at his sides, black shorts, boxing boots. The treatment is textured, with a cracked grain running across the skin and the shorts — an old-poster effect.
Behind him, a red half-circle in rays, like a rising sun, and two dotted horizontal rules either side.
Above, THE BADDEST MAN ON THE PLANET in small white capitals, set in an arc around the head.
Premium cotton, crew neck, short sleeves, straight cut. Plain back.
