In 1909, Hugh Lowther, fifth Earl of Lonsdale, presented the National Sporting Club in London with a belt for British champions. The rule he set has held: win the title three times at the same weight and the belt is yours to keep. The Lonsdale Belt is the oldest trophy still awarded in professional boxing.
The brand that carries the name dates from the 1960s, and its angular lettering is part of the visual language of British sport. It takes the front panel here, with LONDON beneath.
The logo, near and far
The Lonsdale logo runs the full width of the front panel, with LONDON underneath. The print is given a washed treatment: the motif arrives with an irregular grain, it is not worn. At five metres the name reads; at one metre the grain of the wash comes through.
Cut and adjustment
Pre-formed curved peak with a white trim on the edge, soft 9 cm / 3.5 in crown, rear adjuster strap. The measurement table shared by every curved peak cap sits on the Canelo washed cap listing.

On several colourways the lettering is printed in a shade close to the ground, which gives a reading by tone rather than by contrast. Black, navy and red are the grounds the name stands out from most sharply.
Worth a look
The Everlast boxing cap runs seventeen treatments of another founding name. The Fairtex cap covers muay thai, and the Brooklyn cap takes New York rather than London. Everything sits in the boxing caps collection.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Lonsdale Belt?
The belt presented in 1909 by the fifth Earl of Lonsdale to the National Sporting Club in London, for British champions. A boxer who wins the title three times at the same weight keeps it permanently. It is the oldest trophy still awarded in professional boxing.
What size boxing cap should I get?
The rear strap covers 55–59 cm / 21.7–23.2 in. Measure with a tape about 1 cm / 0.4 in above the eyebrows, around the back of the skull over the bump, without pulling tight.
Which colourway shows the lettering best?
Black, navy and red give the sharpest reading. On white, sand, grey and pink the lettering works tonally and comes through at one to two metres.
Who has won three Lonsdale Belts outright?
Only a handful of fighters have kept more than one. Henry Cooper is the best known, the first man to win three outright belts across his career, and the reason the name carries the weight it does in Britain.
How do you wash a printed cap?
By hand, lukewarm water at 30 °C / 86 °F maximum, mild soap, without scrubbing the motif or folding it. Dry in the shade over something round. A machine drum and a tumble dryer are the two things that tire a print fastest.
All eight colourways sit under the same listing: pick yours from the drop-down above.
