In 688 BC, at the twenty-third Olympiad, Onomastus of Smyrna won the first Olympic boxing title ever contested and, according to Pausanias and Philostratus, went on to write the first rules of the sport. He took no purse for it: a wreath of wild olive, and nothing else.

The gold on the white and gold version is a printed flat, not metallic embroidery: it does not catch the light and reads at about a metre. On the black and the pink, the white peak trim is sewn into the build, so it cannot wear away.

The rear strap covers 55 to 59 cm / 21.7 to 23.2 in. Measure with a tape about 1 cm / 0.4 in above the eyebrows, running over the bump at the back of the skull, snug but not tight. Take the measurement twice.
What is the difference between a curved peak and a flat peak cap?
Crown height: 9 cm / 3.5 in on a curved peak against 13 cm / 5.1 in on a flat peak. The curved shape follows the skull and sits lower on the forehead; the flat peak sits high. The peak itself is 7 cm / 2.8 in on both, but it arrives pre-formed on this one.
Which colourway should I choose?
White with a black print gives the crispest reading, black with a white print the reversed contrast. The white and gold version is the quietest of the four — the logo comes through at about a metre.
How do you wash a baseball cap without wrecking the shape?
Hand wash in lukewarm water at 30 °C / 86 °F with a mild soap, then air dry resting on something round. A washing machine drum deforms a pre-formed peak. A weekly dry brush of the inner sweatband handles most of it.
