On 13 November 1982, Kim Duk-koo collapsed in the fourteenth round of a world title fight against Ray Mancini and died four days later. By 1983 the WBC had cut its championship distance from fifteen rounds to twelve; the other governing bodies followed, and twelve is the rule everywhere today.
This cap carries the image of what waits at the end of those twelve rounds: the WORLD CHAMPION block, belt included.
The print, near and far
The motif is printed in colour: WORLD above, CHAMPION below, both in gold capitals, with the WBC belt laid diagonally through the block — green strap, gold plate struck with the initials, flag medallions all around it. A white handwritten signature closes the composition. At four metres you pick out a gold plate on black; at one metre both words read and the flags on the plate come through.
Cut and adjustment
Pre-formed curved peak with a white trim on the edge, soft 9 cm / 3.5 in crown, rear adjuster strap. The measurement table shared by every curved peak cap sits on the Canelo washed cap listing.

Printing is what renders the gold gradients on the plate; embroidery works with a limited number of thread colours and flattens them. That technical choice is what gives the plate its metallic look.
Worth a look
The official WBC cap carries the federation emblem itself across four colourways. The WBC trucker takes the same block onto mesh rear panels for warm weather, and the Muhammad Ali cap works a champion rather than a governing body. Everything sits in the boxing caps collection.
Frequently asked questions
Why are world title fights twelve rounds?
The WBC cut its championships from fifteen rounds to twelve in 1983, after the death of the South Korean boxer Kim Duk-koo, injured in the fourteenth round of a fight with Ray Mancini in November 1982. The other governing bodies followed.
What size boxing cap should I get?
The rear strap covers 55–59 cm / 21.7–23.2 in. Measure with a tape about 1 cm / 0.4 in above the eyebrows, around the back of the skull over the bump, without pulling tight.
What is the difference between the World Champion block and the WBC logo?
The World Champion block pictures the belt itself — gold plate and green strap. The WBC logo is the governing body’s emblem: a band of member nation flags, a boxer silhouette and the three letters. That one appears on the official WBC cap.
Why is the WBC belt green?
Green and gold are the colours the council adopted at its founding in Mexico City in 1963, taken from the Mexican flag — the WBC was created on the initiative of the Mexican president Adolfo López Mateos with eleven founding countries.
How do you wash a printed cap?
By hand, lukewarm water at 30 °C / 86 °F maximum, mild soap, dabbing the print rather than brushing it. Dry in the shade over something round: direct sun dulls gold faster than any other colour.
Single colourway: add it straight to the basket.
