A treatment borrowed from the fight poster
Spattered ink is not decoration: it has been the graphic code of the fight poster since the 2000s. Splashes, runs, eaten-away edges — the idea is to suggest the impact without showing the punch.
Here the device is used as a transition between two colours rather than as a background: the top of the garment breaks up progressively towards the bottom. The sleeves follow the same gradient, so the effect holds when the arms are raised.
The artwork
The lion emblem, forepaw raised, sits above LONSDALE in heavy serif capitals and LONDON on a band, printed at the centre of the chest.
Around it, the all-over print: the dark colour covers the shoulders and upper body, then breaks into vertical splashes until the pale colour takes over at the bottom. The sleeves carry the same gradient.
