Lonsdale half zip hoodie

- Regular price€49,00

The essentials: two diagonal half zips, one either side of the neck: the collar sits higher without pressing on your throat, which a straight zip cannot do. Lonsdale lion large across the back, small on the chest. This is the one to take if you pull it on soaked on the way out of the gym. 6 colour combinations, 6 sizes from S to XXXL, European cut — take your usual size. €49, free standard shipping.
The name comes from a belt made in 1909
Lonsdale was started in London in 1960 by Bernard Hart, a professional boxer turned equipment maker. He did not put his own name on it: he asked the seventh Earl of Lonsdale for permission to use the family name.
Why? Because in 1909, Hugh Lowther, fifth Earl of Lonsdale, created the Lonsdale Belt — the oldest championship belt in British boxing, still awarded today. Win it outright three times and it is yours for life.
The diagonal half zip on this model is a technical choice: a straight zip stops under the chin and digs in the moment you lower your head. Offset to the side, the collar can sit higher without pressing on the throat.
The artwork
The lion, in profile with a forepaw raised, above LONSDALE in serif capitals with LONDON on a band, printed on the left chest.
The same block runs large across the back, between the shoulder blades, at roughly three times the scale: that is the main print on the garment, the chest one is only its echo.
Depending on the version the print is blue and red, red alone, white or black. The hood drawcords are in a contrasting colour.
The garment
Stand collar, diagonal half zip, hood with contrast drawcords, ribbed cuffs and hem. Fitted cut, set-in long sleeves.

Frequently asked questions
What is a half zip hoodie?
A hoodie whose zip runs down only the top half of the body: it goes on over your head, and the collar opens to let heat out without stripping off. This one has two of them, one each side of the neck.
What size should I order?
European cut — take your usual size, with no conversion to apply. Six sizes, S to XXXL. This one has a fitted cut, so go one size up if you want room over training kit.
What is the Lonsdale Belt?
The oldest championship belt in British boxing, created in 1909 by Hugh Lowther, fifth Earl of Lonsdale. Win it outright three times and you keep it for life. The brand was named after it in 1960, with the seventh Earl’s permission.
Why is the zip diagonal?
A straight zip stops under the chin and digs in as soon as you lower your head. Offset to the side of the neck, the collar can sit higher without pressing on the throat.
Is the logo on the front or the back?
Both, but the back is the main one: the same block runs across the shoulder blades at about three times the size of the chest print.
How many colours does it come in?
Six combinations, differing by body colour and logo colour together. The blue and red version carries the brand’s historic colours.
