Three days of writing, and a refusal
In March 1975, Sylvester Stallone watched Chuck Wepner, a heavy underdog, last fifteen rounds with Muhammad Ali. He wrote a script out of it in three days, by his own account.
The studios wanted to buy it, but with an established star in the part. Stallone, unknown and broke, refused to sell unless he played Rocky. He got his way, against a budget cut to the bone — and the film became the biggest American hit of 1976.
The artwork
Two prints. On the left chest, ROCKY in small capitals, discreet. On the back, the same word in large serif capitals with a worn texture, centred between the shoulder blades.
The print is monochrome, in black or white depending on the colour of the sweatshirt. Seven shades available: grey, dark grey, white, white V2, red, navy and black.
The garment
Full-length zip, hood lined in a contrast fabric, side pockets rather than a kangaroo pocket, ribbed cuffs and hem. The zip lets you get in and out of it without going over your head — useful between warm-up rounds.

Frequently asked questions
Was Rocky Balboa a real person?
No, he is a fictional character. Stallone wrote him after watching Chuck Wepner last fifteen rounds with Muhammad Ali on 24 March 1975.
How long did Stallone take to write Rocky?
Three days, by his own account. He then turned down every offer to buy the script because none of them let him play the lead.
How many Rocky films are there?
Six, from 1976 to 2006, plus the three Creed films from 2015 — nine in all, with the same actor throughout.
Is the print on the front or the back?
Both. A small ROCKY on the left chest and the same word large across the back.
What size should I take?
European cut — take your usual size, with no Asian sizing to convert. Six sizes from S to XXXL, all at the same price. Over training kit, go up one.
How do I care for the print?
Machine wash at 30 °C / 86 °F inside out, no tumble dryer, and never run an iron over the print. Heat transfer film holds for years on that routine and gives way to heat, not to washing.
