Red, white and blue: the colours of the trophy
When the fifth Earl of Lonsdale put his belt up in 1909 for the champions of Great Britain, the trophy was gold, mounted on a red, white and blue ribbon. Those are the three colours of the band running across the sleeves of this jacket.
The belt still exists. It has been awarded since 1929 by the British Boxing Board of Control, and since 2013 those who win one outright may display the Lonsdale Badge on their shorts in the ring. In May 2023, the Welsh boxer Lauren Price became the first woman to hold one.
Cut, fabric and finish
Cotton fleece: dense knit on the face, brushed back against the skin. The maker states a cotton composition and a fitted cut. Ribbed crew collar, like a team jacket, full zip, two side pockets, ribbed cuffs and hem.
The marking is doubled. At the front, the Lonsdale lion and the word LONDON, small, on the left chest. On the back, the same logo large, centred between the shoulder blades. The tricolour band sits on both forearms, at the same height.
The 2 colourways
Navy: white logos, red-white-blue band, black inner collar. White: black logos, the same band, black inner collar as well. On both, the large back logo reads from several metres / a good ten feet, while the chest one is noticed close up.

Frequently asked questions
Why a red, white and blue band?
Because those are the colours of the Lonsdale Belt ribbon. When the fifth Earl put the belt up in 1909, the gold trophy was mounted on a red, white and blue ribbon — the same three colours as the band across these sleeves.
Is the Lonsdale logo printed on the back?
Yes, large and centred between the shoulder blades, with a smaller lion and LONDON on the left chest. The back logo reads from several metres / a good ten feet.
What is the fit like?
The maker states a fitted cut. Chest runs from 98 cm / 39 in in S to 118 cm / 46 in in XXXL — worth checking against a jacket you already own if you like room.
What is cotton fleece?
A knit that is dense on the face and brushed on the back, against the skin. It is warmer and softer than a plain jersey, and holds its shape better than a synthetic fleece.
What is the Lonsdale Badge?
A mark that boxers who win a Lonsdale Belt outright may display on their shorts in the ring, allowed since 2013. The belt itself has been awarded by the British Boxing Board of Control since 1929.
How do you look after it?
Machine wash at 30 °C / 86 °F, inside out, no tumble dryer and no iron directly on the print. Washing inside out is what protects the marking: it is the friction against the drum that dulls a print, more than the water.
