In short: Black and gold, MUAY THAI lettered across the thigh and gold scrollwork down the other leg. Lettering and ornament on the same garment, which is rare. 8 sizes, XS to 4XL. €49.
Why black and gold keeps coming back in Thai gyms
In Thai camps gold is not one decorative colour among others. It is tied to temples, to the mongkhon headband and the prajioud armbands a fighter wears, and it traditionally signals the respect owed to the discipline and to the teacher.
Set on black it also does something plain: it is the highest-contrast pairing available without going to white. Under gym lighting the gold picks up what light there is and the black gives it a ground with no competition.
What the shorts look like
Solid black ground. On the left thigh, the words MUAY THAI in gold letters edged in gold, in a slanted script. On the right leg, broad gold scrollwork in stylised flames.
The wide elastic waistband is black, edged with a fine gold trim. Satin finish.
Lettering on one thigh, scrollwork on the other
The two schools of the Thai short, text and ornament, rarely share a garment. Here they take a leg each: MUAY THAI in gold on the left thigh, flame scrollwork on the right.
The consequence is visual. Head on, the short reads as lettering; in profile, as ornament. For a model with no printed motif and a visible cut instead, see the panelled Muay Thai short.

Worth knowing: carrying both lettering and ornament is unusual on one short. It also means the garment reads differently depending on the angle, which is worth knowing if you are picking kit for a card that will be filmed.
Getting the size right
The lettering is scaled per size, so it occupies the same share of the thigh from XS to 4XL. Beyond that, the point that causes most ordering errors: Thai-made shorts run small and most guides tell you to size up. Not here. This is a European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where most of the market stops at XXL. In a groin guard, go one size up.

Frequently asked questions
Why is gold so common on Muay Thai shorts?
In Thailand gold is associated with temples and with a fighter’s ritual objects — the mongkhon headband and the prajioud armbands. It signals respect for the discipline and for the teacher, and it is the highest-contrast colour available on black.
What size Muay Thai shorts should I get?
Take your usual size. These are cut to European sizing, so the standard advice to order one size up — which applies to Thai-made shorts — does not apply here. Eight sizes run XS to 4XL. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.
What are the mongkhon and the prajioud?
The mongkhon is the woven headband a nak muay wears for the wai kru ram muay before a bout and removes before fighting. The prajioud are the armbands worn during it. Both are given by the gym rather than bought.
Can you wear Muay Thai shorts for boxing?
Yes. The short leg and high split take nothing away from footwork, and plenty of boxers train in them. The one difference is the low-blow line: boxing shorts mark it with a waistband above the navel, Thai shorts do not.
Do these come in big and tall sizes?
Yes, up to 4XL. Most of the market stops at XXL on a pair of Thai shorts.
How do you wash Muay Thai shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and never put an iron directly on the design. Skip the fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
