What the gold lettering on a Thai short says
The gold lettering running across the thigh is written in the Thai alphabet. It is an abugida: each sign is a consonant carrying an implied vowel, modified by other marks placed above, below, before or after it. That is where the stacked-line look comes from.
Thai is also written without spaces between words, which gives the script its continuous graphic run. On a fight short the lettering most often carries the name of the training camp, or the name of the discipline itself.
Against a yellow ground the gold of the lettering works tone on tone: it is the white outline that draws the characters. The only yellow in the Muay Thai range, and the only one where the script is read by its edge.
What the shorts look like
Two-tone ground: yellow across the top, green below, separated by a clean break. Broad gold scrollwork in stylised flames, outlined in white, covers the upper thigh and runs down along the openings. The gold Thai lettering sits on the left thigh.
The wide elastic waistband is green and yellow. Satin finish.
A light ground in a ring: what it does
Yellow is the brightest colour in the Muay Thai range. Under gym lighting a light ground throws the light back and lifts the silhouette away from the dark of the seats behind — the opposite of what a black short does.
The green across the lower half anchors it and keeps it from reading as a single flat block. For a solid ground with no two-tone break, see the panelled Muay Thai short.

Getting the size right
The two-tone break falls at mid-thigh whatever the size: the proportion holds from XS to 4XL. Beyond that, the point that causes most ordering errors: Thai-made shorts run small and most guides tell you to size up. Not here. This is a European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where most of the market stops at XXL. In a groin guard, go one size up.

Frequently asked questions
How do you look after a light-coloured Muay Thai short?
Machine wash at 30 °C / 86 °F inside out, air dry. Polyester satin dries fast and holds no moisture. Skip the fabric softener: without it the yellow keeps its brightness wash after wash.
What size Muay Thai shorts should I get?
Take your usual size. These are cut to European sizing, so the standard advice to order one size up — which applies to Thai-made shorts — does not apply here. Eight sizes run XS to 4XL. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.
What does the Thai writing on the shorts say?
Thai script on a fight short usually carries the name of the training camp or the name of the discipline. The alphabet is written without spaces between words, which gives it its continuous run.
Can you wear Muay Thai shorts for boxing?
Yes. The short leg and high split take nothing away from footwork, and plenty of boxers train in them. The one difference is the low-blow line: boxing shorts mark it with a waistband above the navel, Thai shorts do not.
Do these come in big and tall sizes?
Yes, up to 4XL. Most of the market stops at XXL on a pair of Thai shorts.
How do you wash Muay Thai shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and never put an iron directly on the design. Skip the fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
