A club tee — except the club comes out of a work of fiction.
Kamogawa
Kamogawa Boxing Gym is the fictional gym of Hajime no Ippo, the manga by George Morikawa serialised since 1989. It is where Ippo Makunouchi, a beginner who becomes a professional fighter, learns the sport.
It has become a reference for people who know: wearing the name signals you have read the work, the way you would wear the name of a real gym.
The catalogue holds other imaginary clubs, from film this time: Mighty Mick's and Delphi Boxing Academy.
The ringer cut
This is not a plain tee with a print on it: it is a ringer, a construction where the collar and sleeve bands are in a contrast colour, sewn on separately from the body.
It is the cut of American sports tees from the 1960s and 1970s — consistent with the 1969 date on the print.
Because the contrast is part of the garment, it cannot fade out in the wash.
What it looks like on
The print is centred on the chest, over four tiers:
- KAMOGAWA in an arc, in small capitals
- Three stars in a row
- BOXING then GYM in very large collegiate capitals — thick letters with a double outline, as on American varsity jerseys
- est. 1969 small, beneath
The lettering is distressed, like an old screen print, and set in the colour of the collar — print and trim match across all five colourways.
Premium cotton, crew neck, short sleeves, straight cut. Plain back.
Five two-tone colourways
| Colourway | How it reads |
|---|---|
| White and royal blue | The brightest, clean contrast |
| White and navy | Same base, quieter register |
| White and red | The most classic ringer of all |
| Heather grey and red | Marled ground, warm contrast |
| Heather grey and black | The quietest of the five |
Your size
European cut — take your usual size, with no adjustment. Five sizes per colourway, S to XXL, all at the same price. Chest runs from about 96 cm / 38 in on a S to 116 cm / 46 in on an XXL.
