The essentials: a pair of black gloves resting on the canvas of a ring, painted abstractly: ropes suggested by red and blue strokes, floor worked in flats of red, yellow and turquoise. 10 sizes from 20 × 30 cm / 8 × 12 in to 110 × 160 cm / 43 × 63 in. Frame sold separately. From €19 to €109 depending on size, free standard shipping.
Six metres a side, and a floor that gives
The floor painted on this canvas follows precise rules. A professional ring measures between 4.90 and 7.30 m / 16 and 24 ft a side inside the ropes, with most championships fought at around 6 m / 20 ft. It stands 0.90 to 1.20 m / 3 to 4 ft above the floor and is enclosed by four ropes at fixed heights.
The surface is not a plain platform: under the covering, a layer of foam or felt about 2 cm / 0.8 in thick absorbs falls. That layer is why a boxer going down makes the dull sound it does — and why a small ring, where you meet the ropes quickly, favours punchers, while a large one favours boxers who move.
What you see
Portrait format. A pair of black gloves lies flat in the foreground at the bottom of the frame, one against the other, cuffs to the right, matt leather with a few pale highlights.
Around and behind, the ring is painted abstractly: the floor in flats of red, yellow, turquoise and grey laid on with a knife, with vertical runs; the ropes suggested by red and blue strokes crossing the top of the frame, and two corner posts carrying white lettering painted vertically. A second piece of lettering sits on the cuff of the right glove. No boxer in the frame. From 3 m / 10 ft you read two dark gloves in a coloured mass; from 1 m / 3 ft the knife marks appear.

Worth knowing: a sharp subject in the foreground against an abstract ground gives two levels of reading on one canvas, so it keeps giving up detail after weeks on the wall. From 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in the knife marks read from a sofa. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
A sharp foreground, a ground that has to be found
The two black gloves read at once, from 20 × 30 cm / 8 × 12 in. Everything else — the knife flats, the vertical runs, the rope strokes — needs surface not to close into a single coloured mass: allow 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in for the knife marks to show from a sofa and 90 × 130 cm / 35 × 51 in for the ring to reassemble. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
How big is a boxing ring?
Between 4.90 and 7.30 m / 16 and 24 ft a side inside the ropes, most championships at around 6 m / 20 ft, raised 0.90 to 1.20 m / 3 to 4 ft off the floor with about 2 cm / 0.8 in of foam under the covering.
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater, that means 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in; over a two-seater, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; in a hallway, 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in. The full size chart by wall type is on the Ali vs Liston 1965 page.
Is there a boxer or any text on this canvas?
No boxer: the ring is empty and the gloves lie on the floor. As for text, two corner posts carry white lettering painted vertically and the cuff of the right glove carries a second, both handled as part of the setting rather than as a message.
What does the coloured ground represent?
The ring itself, painted abstractly: the floor in knife-laid flats and the ropes as red and blue strokes across the top. It reassembles as a ring from 90 × 130 cm / 35 × 51 in.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
