The word on the back: a television story
For a long time a boxer's robe carried nothing. It was there only to keep the muscles warm between the changing room and the bell. What changed everything was televised fights: the walk to the ring became a filmed, framed, commented moment — and the boxer's back, several seconds of airtime.
Since then the rule has been simple: you have your name embroidered on it, or your gym's, or a word. Specialist workshops now make it their main business, with a choice of fonts and thread colours. It has become the mark of recognition for amateur and professional boxers alike.
Here the word is placed elsewhere and it is short: CHAMP, in black on the yellow waistband of the shorts. Five letters and an abbreviation, at exactly the point a referee looks to judge whether a punch has landed low.
The set
The robe: black satin, straight cut, mid-calf length, three-quarter sleeves stopping below the elbow. The facings are yellow — wide lapels running from the hood to the hem, hood lining, cuffs and belt. The belt ties and leaves two hanging ends.

The black and the yellow
The facings are a strong matt yellow, not gold: in the photographs they throw back no metallic reflection, unlike the black satin of the body, which does catch the light. The contrast between the two reads from several metres / a good ten feet away.
