The waistband marks the legal line
On boxing shorts, the wide elasticated waistband is not there to hold the garment up — a drawstring would do. It is there because it is a line in the rules.
Hitting below the belt is forbidden, and the referee needs a marker visible from outside the ring to make the call. It is the top of that band that counts. Hence its width, hence its contrasting colour, and hence the convention that boxing shorts are worn high, above the navel, not on the hips.
A boxer pulling his waistband up between rounds is not adjusting his kit for comfort. He is moving the line above which he can legally be hit — which is exactly what referees watch for and pull fighters up on.

The two pieces
The robe: very bright red satin, straight cut, length below the knee, hood, long sleeves. Silver piping runs down the front edges, borders the hood and marks the sleeve ends. It is worn open, with no fastening and no belt.
The shorts: matching red satin, wide silver elasticated waistband with the CHAMPS label. Boxing cut, above the knee, high waist.
How the red satin reads
The fabric is a highly reflective red, with pronounced light and dark zones along the folds. At three metres / ten feet you see a plain red silhouette crossed by two vertical silver lines; close up, the grain of the satin and the edge of the piping become visible.
