The gorilla is tattooed on his chest
The animal here is not a metaphor the illustrator chose: McGregor carries a gorilla tattooed on his chest, jaws open, holding a heart in its teeth, inked in 2014 just before his rise at the UFC. The tattoo became his commercial emblem, reused on walkout gear, brands and posters.
His fight name takes one word: the Notorious. The gorilla is the silent version of it. The crown points at something else: in November 2016 McGregor became the first UFC fighter to hold two titles in different weight classes at the same time.
