Camouflage in combat sports, a story of training camps
Camouflage arrived in fight gyms by a specific route: military training programmes. Boxing, wrestling and close-quarters combat are part of the training of a great many armies, and the kit followed the men.
It stayed for a practical reason. A broken pattern hides mat marks, dust and scuffing far better than a flat colour, which matters on a garment that spends hours a week on the ground.
What the shorts look like
Two colourways: desert beige with brown and green patches, or urban grey with charcoal patches. The camouflage covers the upper section and the hip.
The hem runs to oblique black and white stripes, and the Venum lettering in white runs down the thigh. The waistband is flat with a drawcord and a reinforcement tab. Clean side slits. Sublimated print.
Desert camouflage or grey camouflage
The collection runs two camouflages. This one comes in desert beige, with brown and green patches, or urban grey. The grey camo fight short works instead on cold values and pixelated areas.
The oblique striping at the hem is specific to this model: it breaks the camouflage rather than continuing it. For the full detail of the fight short cut, see the grey geometric fight short.

Worth knowing: a broken pattern is the practical choice for ground work: mat marks and dust show far less on camouflage than on a flat colour.
Getting the size right
European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where most of the market stops at XXL on a fight short. The camouflage is scaled per size, and the oblique stripes at the hem keep their spacing. The drawcord takes up a change in waist measurement. In a groin guard, go one size up.

Frequently asked questions
Why is camouflage so common in combat sports?
It came in through military training programmes, where boxing and close-quarters combat are part of the syllabus, and it stayed for a practical reason: a broken pattern hides mat marks and dust far better than a flat colour.
What is the difference between MMA shorts and boxing shorts?
An MMA short is built for the ground as well as the feet. It runs longer, to just above the knee, with a side slit on each leg so a closed guard and a leg pass do not bind the hip, and a flat drawcord waistband that stays tied when an opponent pulls on it. Boxing shorts have none of that.
Do these fit true to size?
Yes. European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes run XS to 4XL. The drawcord takes up a change in waist measurement. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.
Does the print wear off in the wash?
No. The design is sublimated into the fibre rather than laid on top of it, so there is no layer to crack or peel on the mat. Wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F and skip the fabric softener.
Do these come in big and tall sizes?
Yes, up to 4XL. Most of the market stops at XXL on a fight short.
How do you wash MMA shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and no iron on the design. Avoid fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
