In short: The rules you train under are named after an English aristocrat. The Queensberry Rules, published in 1867, brought in gloves, three-minute rounds and the count of ten. These shorts carry the Union Jack as an all-over print, on a Muay Thai cut. 8 sizes, XS to 4XL. €39 in XS, €44 from S to 4XL.
1867: the year boxing became a sport
Before that, men fought bare-knuckle with no time limit, until one of them stayed down. In 1867 the Marquess of Queensberry Rules appeared, drafted by John Graham Chambers and published under the Marquess’s patronage. Twelve articles that changed the sport.
They are what brought in padded gloves, three-minute rounds with a minute between them, the count of ten for a man on the floor, and the ban on wrestling. Everything you do on the pads descends from that document.
Britain went on to produce Lennox Lewis, Ricky Hatton, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. But the lasting contribution is the one above: this is the country that wrote the rulebook.
What the shorts look like
The Union Jack is printed across the whole garment, the cross and the diagonals set so they stay readable through the leg splits. Blue ground, red cross edged in white through the centre, red and white diagonals in the corners.
The wide elastic waistband is solid blue. Satin finish. This is the Union flag of the United Kingdom, not the St George’s cross.
The Muay Thai cut, and why it matters
Every country short in this collection shares one cut: short leg, high side split over the hip, wide elastic waistband. That is not styling. The high split clears the hip completely, which is what a head kick and a clinch need — the two movements Muay Thai is built around.
In practice these work for Muay Thai, kickboxing, K-1 and MMA training, and they are just as usable in boxing for gym work and club shows: the leg stays free and nothing catches during footwork.

Worth knowing: the Union Jack is the most graphic flag in the range — the cross and diagonals set up a run of lines that holds the eye even standing still. The blue waistband works in your favour if you draw the blue corner; check your association’s rules before a sanctioned bout.
Getting the size right
European cut — take your usual size. Most Muay Thai shorts on the market are Thai-made and sized accordingly, which is why almost every seller tells you to order one size up. These are cut to European sizing, so that correction does not apply. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where the bulk of the market stops at XXL. The elastic waistband absorbs a swing in waist measurement, which helps through a fight camp. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.

Frequently asked questions
Do Muay Thai shorts run small?
Thai-made shorts do, which is why the usual advice is to order one size up. These are a European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes run from XS to 4XL. Between two sizes, or if you wear a groin guard, take the larger one.
What is the difference between Muay Thai shorts and boxing shorts?
Muay Thai shorts sit above the knee with a high side split and a wide elastic waistband, which clears the hip for kicks and clinch work. Boxing shorts run longer with the waistband above the navel, marking the low-blow line. These are the Muay Thai cut, and they carry over to boxing training without trouble.
What are the Queensberry Rules?
Twelve articles published in 1867, written by John Graham Chambers under the patronage of the Marquess of Queensberry. They introduced padded gloves, three-minute rounds with one minute of rest, the ten count, and the ban on wrestling holds. Modern boxing runs on them.
Is this the England flag or the Union Jack?
The Union Jack — the flag of the United Kingdom, blue ground with the red cross of St George edged in white over the diagonals of St Andrew and St Patrick. It is not the plain red-on-white St George’s cross flown for England alone.
How do you wash Muay Thai shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and never put an iron directly on the panels. Skip the fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
Are these unisex?
Yes. The cut is the same for men and women — only the size changes, and the range opens at XS, which is not true everywhere.
