The essentials: a speed rope with ribbed rigid-foam handles of 16 cm / 6.3 in, built not to slip when the hands sweat. Polymer-coated steel cable of 2.80 m / 9 ft 2 in on ball bearings, adjustable then cut to your measure. Two colourways: black or black and red. €19, free standard shipping.
Over a three-minute round, it is not the rope that gives out first: it is the grip. The hands warm up, they sweat, and a smooth handle starts turning in the palm. This model answers exactly that, with a rigid foam handle and a ribbed profile that keeps its grip from the start of the session to the end.
16 cm long, 3.3 cm across
Two figures that matter more than they sound. The 16 cm / 6.3 in of handle leave a choice of grip: high for a short, sharp action, lower for a steady warm-up rhythm.
The 3.3 cm / 1.3 in diameter gives a substantial handle, held in a full hand. Together with the raised ribbing, that lets you control the rope without gripping hard, which rests the forearm over time.
What the foam handle changes
Rigid foam does three things a metal tube does not. It absorbs sweat instead of leaving it on the surface, which prevents the gradual slipping at the end of a set. It damps the micro-vibrations sent up by the cable on every pass at the floor, the ones that eventually make the fingers ache. And it stays at room temperature, where metal is cold in winter in a garage or an unheated gym.
The raised ribbing along the whole length gives the fingers something to bear on, wherever the hand sits on the handle.
Steel cable and ball bearings
Under the handle, the mechanics are those of a real speed rope. The cable is a polymer-coated steel wire, tangle-free: it is lively, holds its tension and does not deform.
Each handle carries a ball bearing. The cable turns freely without dragging the handle or building up twist: no rope kinking between sets, no tight spot breaking the cadence. That is what makes double unders workable.
Setting the rope to your height
The cable is supplied at 2.80 m / 9 ft 2 in. Length is set by a clamping screw at each end: loosen, slide the cable, tighten, then cut the surplus or coil it.
The guide: stand one foot on the middle of the cable and bring the handles up along the body. They should reach the shoulders for a beginner, the armpits for someone chasing speed. This 2.80 m / 9 ft 2 in suits heights up to about 1.85 m / 6 ft 1 in. Above that, our metal rope supplied at 3 m / 9 ft 10 in leaves more margin.

The right floor for a coated steel cable. Aim for wood, a training mat, tatami or a rubber surface: these preserve the coating and give a more consistent rebound. Tarmac and bare concrete are abrasive and attack the coating.

Frequently asked questions
Do foam handles slip when you sweat?
That is what they are designed to avoid. Rigid foam absorbs sweat instead of leaving it on the surface, and the raised ribbing gives the fingers something to bear on. A smooth metal tube starts to turn in the palm at the end of a set.
How long is this skipping rope?
2.80 m / 9 ft 2 in, adjustable by a clamping screw at each end and then cut to measure. It suits heights up to about 1.85 m / 6 ft 1 in.
Foam or metal handles: what is the difference?
Foam absorbs sweat, damps the vibration coming up the cable and stays at room temperature — the choice for long sessions and cold rooms. Metal is thinner and more responsive, with less material between the hand and the axis, which drives the action from the wrist.
How do you set the length?
Loosen the clamping screw, slide the cable, tighten again. Stand a foot on the middle: the handles should reach the shoulders to learn, the armpits for speed. Cut the surplus only once you are sure.
Can you do double unders with this model?
Yes. The ball bearings let the cable turn without dragging the handle, so it does not build up twist between sets — which is exactly what double unders need.
What floor should you skip on?
Wood, a training mat, tatami or a rubber surface. These preserve the coating on the cable and give a more consistent rebound. Tarmac and bare concrete are abrasive.
