Forty millimetres tall for thirty-two grams: the piece is solid rather than hollow, and you feel it on the neck. The weight comes from the block of steel the hand is carved out of, each finger cut clear of the next.
What the piece shows
A wrap turned around the wrist, running diagonally across the back of the hand and looping around the thumb. A fine raised line of dots follows its edge and reads as the stitching. The four fingers are modelled separately, cut clear, knuckles drawn, each tip hollowed and blackened.
Blackening, and what it does
It is a jewellery technique kept for heavily detailed pieces. On an evenly polished object, light bounces back the same way everywhere and the modelling disappears: from three metres / ten feet the piece looks smooth. Blackening the recesses and polishing the raised areas back puts the shadows in again, and every detail becomes readable. Here it is the gaps between the fingers, the edge of the wrap and the line of dots that come forward.
Four chain lengths
The necklace ships in 45, 50, 55 or 60 cm / 18 to 24 in, on a matching rope chain. At 45 cm the pendant rests below the collarbone; at 60 cm it drops onto the chest and shows over a t-shirt. You set the drop at checkout instead of buying another chain.

Good to know: the black sitting in the recesses is part of the finish. Wipe the surface with a dry soft cloth without working the bottom of the carving, and skip polishing paste, which would bring everything back to the same shine and flatten the modelling. Stainless steel handles water and sweat.

Can I wear it every day?
Yes. Stainless steel does not oxidise and takes water and sweat with no upkeep. Take it off to train, as with any necklace, and wipe it dry after wear to keep the contrast between the polish and the blackened recesses.
