In short: the necklace arrives ready to wear, chain included, in a metal that shrugs off water and sweat with no upkeep. Pair of boxing gloves in mirror polished stainless steel on a matching 60 cm / 24 in Franco chain. One version. €29, free standard shipping.
In 2017, at the Roman fort of Vindolanda just south of Hadrian's Wall, archaeologists lifted two leather knuckle guards dated to around AD 120: the only boxing gloves from the Roman period known to survive, one of them still holding the impression of its owner's knuckles. They were never a matching pair, and they were kept together anyway for nineteen centuries.
A complete set, chain included
The 60 cm / 24 in Franco chain ships with the pendant in the same steel and the same polish. A Franco chain is a solid chain whose V shaped links nest into a chevron, giving a square section cord that will not twist or flatten as you wear it. At 60 cm the pendant sits high on the sternum, visible over a t-shirt or an open collar.
Why stainless steel
Stainless steel does not oxidise, stands up to sweat and water, and holds its shine with no polish or dip. It is the metal for jewellery you keep on: shower, rain, washing up, it takes all of it and asks for a wipe with a cloth.
Its hardness works the same way. On a piece worn daily, rubbing against a collar or a seat belt, steel keeps its polished surface over the long run.
The finish, close up
The gloves are mirror polished: the surface throws light back like chrome and the reflections trace the round of the fist. The laces are engraved into the front face of each glove, crossings included, and the cuff band stands proud all the way round, back included. The back of each glove stays smooth and polished, with no marking.
One detail visible in the photos: the two gloves are not soldered together. Each hangs from its own jump ring under a fixed bail, so they cross and shift as you move, like a real pair hung on its hook.

Good to know: most jewellery grade stainless steel contains nickel. If your skin has reacted to costume jewellery before, wear it for a few hours before keeping it on permanently. The chain ships in 60 cm / 24 in; the bail takes standard links if you would rather hang the pendant on a shorter chain.

Frequently asked questions
Does it come with a chain?
Yes. The necklace ships complete: the boxing gloves pendant and its 60 cm / 24 in Franco chain, in the same stainless steel and the same polish. Nothing else to buy.
Will stainless steel turn my skin green?
No. Stainless steel resists oxidation and sweat and leaves no mark on the skin, which is exactly what makes it a good metal for jewellery worn around the clock, summer included. It holds its colour with no polishing and no dip.
Can I shower or train with it on?
Stainless steel handles water and sweat, so you can keep it on in the shower. Take it off to train, though: a hanging necklace can catch on a glove, a jersey or a training partner on the mat. Rinse it in clean water after a swim in a chlorinated pool.
How big is the pendant?
Each glove is 30 mm / 1.18 in tall by 15 mm / 0.59 in wide, about the size of a finger joint, and the set weighs around 25 g / 0.88 oz. It reads as a pair of gloves from a metre away and wears every day.
What is a Franco chain?
A Franco chain is a solid chain whose V shaped links nest into a chevron pattern, forming a square section cord. It is a favourite for pendants because it stays straight, will not twist and lies flat on the chest. This one is 60 cm / 24 in and closes with a lobster clasp.
How do I look after it?
A soft cloth brings the shine straight back. For a deeper clean, warm water with a drop of soap, then dry it thoroughly, especially between the chain links where moisture sits. No anti tarnish product is needed.
