Most themed pendants are worked on one face only, the back left flat. This one is modelled on both sides, which has a direct effect in wear: when it swings round on the chain it shows the other half of the subject instead of a bare surface.
The two faces
One face carries the back of the glove with MMA cut in, blackened so it reads against the polish. The lettering runs vertically, along the height of the glove. The other face shows the inside of the fist: four fingers folded and cut clear of one another, thumb tucked to the side.
An open-finger glove, not a boxing glove
The difference comes from the rules. In boxing you only strike, so the glove can be closed, padded and bulky. In MMA you also grip, control and wrestle on the mat, which means the fingers have to stay free. Hence the open-finger glove: a padded shell over the knuckles, a wrist closure marked here by a band, and fingers that come out. That is the shape reproduced here, and a practitioner recognises it at a glance.
Gold, rose gold, silver or black
All four finishes carry the same model and the same engraving. Silver stays closest to bare steel. Gold warms the piece and carries further. Rose gold brings a copper tone that softens the motif. Technical specifications
Good to know: the MMA lettering is blackened inside the cut, and that is what makes it read on a polished surface. Wipe the piece with a dry soft cloth after wear without working inside the letters, and avoid polishing paste, which would take the contrast out. Stainless steel handles water and sweat.
