Why there is a red corner and a blue corner
In a ring, the four corners are not equivalent. This set takes up the red across three pieces: robe, crop top and shorts on a silver waistband. Two are assigned to the fighters — one red, one blue — and the other two are neutral and white: those are the ones the referee sends a boxer to after he has put his opponent down, for the duration of the count.
The colour code is not only for the referee. It structures the whole fight: the stool, the bucket, the team, and often the kit itself. A boxer announced in the red corner wears red — which is what lets the judges, the commentators and the crowd follow who is doing what when the two fighters tangle.
A detail few people know: the word ring means circle, while the surface is square. It comes from eighteenth-century bouts, where the crowd gathered in a circle around the fighters, sometimes held back by a rope at arm's length. It was to stop having to hold that rope that four stakes were driven in — and the circle became a square without changing its name.
The three pieces
The robe: very bright red satin, straight cut, length below the knee, hood, long sleeves. Silver piping runs down the front edges, borders the hood and marks the sleeve ends. It is worn open, with no fastening.
The crop top: the same red satin, short cut, thin straps.
The shorts: red satin, wide silver waistband with a white label marked CHAMPS in black capitals on the front. Short cut, high waist.

Frequently asked questions
What is in the set?
Three pieces: the long hooded robe with silver piping, the matching satin crop top, and the shorts with the silver CHAMPS waistband. Gloves and boots are not included.
Why do boxers wear red or blue?
Because the two fighters' corners are red and blue, the other two being neutral and white. The colour runs through everything — stool, bucket, team, kit — so that judges, commentators and crowd can tell the two fighters apart.
Why is a square called a ring?
Because ring means circle. In eighteenth-century bouts the crowd gathered in a circle around the fighters, sometimes held back by a rope at arm's length. Four stakes were driven in to stop having to hold that rope, and the circle became a square without changing its name.
Which size should I take?
Two sizes, M and XL. European cut — take your usual size. If you are between the two, take the XL: the robe is worn over the other two pieces.
Is there a matching men's version?
Yes, the red men's set, in the same satin with the same silver piping. It is the pairing to take for a couple's outfit.
How do you look after a satin robe?
Cold hand wash or a delicate machine cycle in a net, no bleach, no tumble dryer. Hang it to dry on a wide hanger: satin creases readily and hanging is what avoids ironing. If you must iron, use a cool iron on the reverse.
