In short: On 20 February 1993, 132,274 people packed the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City to watch Julio César Chávez — still the largest paying crowd ever at a boxing match. These shorts carry green, white and red in vertical panels with the eagle and serpent at the centre, on a Muay Thai cut. 8 sizes, XS to 4XL. €39 in XS, €44 from S to 4XL.
The country where boxing fills a football stadium
No country lives boxing the way Mexico does. On 20 February 1993, at the Estadio Azteca, 132,274 people came to see Julio César Chávez fight Greg Haugen. It remains the largest paying crowd in the history of the sport.
Chávez opened his career with 87 fights unbeaten and held six world titles across three divisions. After him came Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Márquez, then Canelo Álvarez. Mexico has produced more world champions than any country except the United States.
What people call the Mexican style fits in one line: walk forward, take one to land two, work the body, never give ground. It is a school of boxing in its own right, taught in gyms everywhere. Wearing this flag in a ring is a statement about how you intend to fight.
What the shorts look like
Three vertical panels: green on the left, white in the centre, red on the right. The national emblem sits on the white panel in full colour — a golden eagle on a prickly pear cactus, a serpent in its beak and talon, framed by a wreath of oak and laurel. The drawing is detailed and fills the height of the centre panel.
The wide elastic waistband is red. Satin finish.
The Muay Thai cut, and why it matters
Every country short in this collection shares one cut: short leg, high side split over the hip, wide elastic waistband. That is not styling. The high split clears the hip completely, which is what a head kick and a clinch need — the two movements Muay Thai is built around.
In practice these work for Muay Thai, kickboxing, K-1 and MMA training, and they are just as usable in boxing for gym work and club shows: the leg stays free and nothing catches during footwork.

Worth knowing: this is the most colourful short in the country range — the Mexican emblem is printed in brown, green, gold and red where the other flags work on two or three flat blocks. It reads close up and at distance. For sanctioned amateur bouts, check the corner colour your association assigns.
Getting the size right
European cut — take your usual size. Most Muay Thai shorts on the market are Thai-made and sized accordingly, which is why almost every seller tells you to order one size up. These are cut to European sizing, so that correction does not apply. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where the bulk of the market stops at XXL. The elastic waistband absorbs a swing in waist measurement, which helps through a fight camp. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.

Frequently asked questions
Do Muay Thai shorts run small?
Thai-made shorts do, which is why the usual advice is to order one size up. These are a European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes run from XS to 4XL. Between two sizes, or if you wear a groin guard, take the larger one.
What is the difference between Muay Thai shorts and boxing shorts?
Muay Thai shorts sit above the knee with a high side split and a wide elastic waistband, which clears the hip for kicks and clinch work. Boxing shorts run longer with the waistband above the navel, marking the low-blow line. These are the Muay Thai cut, and they carry over to boxing training without trouble.
What is the Mexican style of boxing?
Pressure fighting: constant forward movement, a high guard, heavy body work and a willingness to trade. It is built on volume to the ribs and liver rather than on outboxing at range, and it is the style Julio César Chávez, Marco Antonio Barrera and Canelo Álvarez all came through.
What is the biggest boxing crowd ever?
132,274, at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on 20 February 1993, for Julio César Chávez against Greg Haugen — the record for a paying crowd. Zale against Pryor in Milwaukee in 1941 drew 135,132, but admission was free.
How do you wash Muay Thai shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and never put an iron directly on the panels. Skip the fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
Are these unisex?
Yes. The cut is the same for men and women — only the size changes, and the range opens at XS, which is not true everywhere.
