In short: At Seoul 1988, a kid from Hay Mohammadi who had walked into a boxing gym at eight brought Morocco its first Olympic boxing medal — Abdelhak Achik, featherweight bronze. Red shorts with the green five-pointed star on the left leg and MOROCCO set vertically on the right. 8 sizes, XS to 4XL. €39 in XS, €44 from S to 4XL.
Four medals, and one family in the middle of them
Morocco has four Olympic boxing medals, all bronze. The first went to Abdelhak Achik at Seoul in 1988, at featherweight. Born in Casablanca in 1959, he joined the Khachabate gym in Hay Mohammadi at eight years old, took the national flyweight title in 1978 and Mediterranean Games gold in 1983.
Four years after Seoul, at Barcelona 1992, his brother Mohamed Achik did exactly the same thing at bantamweight. Two brothers, two Olympic bronzes. Then Tahar Tamsamani at Sydney 2000, and Mohammed Rabii at Rio 2016 — Morocco’s only medallist of those Games in any sport.
Rabii had already made history a year earlier: on 16 October 2015 in Doha he beat Kazakhstan’s Daniyar Yeleussinov in the final to become the first Moroccan amateur world champion. Abdelhak Achik now coaches the national squads. The circle closed.
What the shorts look like
Red across the whole garment. On the left leg, the green five-pointed star of the Moroccan flag, drawn in open outline — it is large, and takes up half the leg. On the right leg, the word MOROCCO in green capitals, running vertically from bottom to top.
The wide elastic waistband is red. Satin finish.
The Muay Thai cut, and why it matters
Every country short in this collection shares one cut: short leg, high side split over the hip, wide elastic waistband. That is not styling. The high split clears the hip completely, which is what a head kick and a clinch need — the two movements Muay Thai is built around.
In practice these work for Muay Thai, kickboxing, K-1 and MMA training, and they are just as usable in boxing for gym work and club shows: the leg stays free and nothing catches during footwork.

Worth knowing: this is the only country short with lettering as part of the design — MOROCCO runs the length of the right leg and the star takes the left. Two symbols instead of one, on a red ground that works in your favour in the red corner. Check your association’s rules before a sanctioned bout.
Getting the size right
European cut — take your usual size. Most Muay Thai shorts on the market are Thai-made and sized accordingly, which is why almost every seller tells you to order one size up. These are cut to European sizing, so that correction does not apply. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where the bulk of the market stops at XXL. The elastic waistband absorbs a swing in waist measurement, which helps through a fight camp. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.

Frequently asked questions
Do Muay Thai shorts run small?
Thai-made shorts do, which is why the usual advice is to order one size up. These are a European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes run from XS to 4XL. Between two sizes, or if you wear a groin guard, take the larger one.
What is the difference between Muay Thai shorts and boxing shorts?
Muay Thai shorts sit above the knee with a high side split and a wide elastic waistband, which clears the hip for kicks and clinch work. Boxing shorts run longer with the waistband above the navel, marking the low-blow line. These are the Muay Thai cut, and they carry over to boxing training without trouble.
How many Olympic boxing medals has Morocco won?
Four, all bronze: Abdelhak Achik at Seoul 1988, his brother Mohamed Achik at Barcelona 1992, Tahar Tamsamani at Sydney 2000 and Mohammed Rabii at Rio 2016.
Who was the first Moroccan boxing world champion?
Mohammed Rabii, at the amateur world championships in Doha on 16 October 2015, beating Daniyar Yeleussinov of Kazakhstan in the welterweight final.
How do you wash Muay Thai shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and never put an iron directly on the panels. Skip the fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
Are these unisex?
Yes. The cut is the same for men and women — only the size changes, and the range opens at XS, which is not true everywhere.
