In short: June 1991, Bangkok, Lumpinee Stadium. A Dutchman from Breda knocked out the local idol in front of 10,000 people. Ramon Dekkers, eight-time world champion, would become the first foreigner voted Thai fighter of the year. Red, white and blue in three horizontal bands. 8 sizes, XS to 4XL. €39 in XS, €44 from S to 4XL.
The country that rewrote how Muay Thai is fought
There is one European flag that carries a particular weight on a Muay Thai ring, and this is it. Ramon Dekkers, born in Breda in 1969 and known as The Diamond, did what no westerner had managed: he went to Lumpinee and Rajadamnern and beat Thai champions in their own stadiums.
210 fights, 185 wins, a large majority inside the distance. Eight world titles. In 1992 Thailand named him its best foreign fighter, an honour no farang had received. He fought the great Coban Lookchaomaesaitong eight times and won four.
His style changed the sport: where Muay Thai was fought at range and in the clinch, Dekkers walked forward and threw hands. The Thais adapted after him. He died at 43, in 2013, of a heart attack while cycling in his home town. What you carry on this short is that school — the Dutch style, hands and legs, constant pressure.
What the shorts look like
Three full-width horizontal bands: red on top, white through the middle, blue below. It is the only country short in the range built horizontally rather than in vertical panels, which gives it a silhouette you pick out immediately in a ring.
The wide elastic waistband is red and continues the top band. Satin finish, no print and no lettering across the bands.
The Muay Thai cut, and why it matters
Every country short in this collection shares one cut: short leg, high side split over the hip, wide elastic waistband. That is not styling. The high split clears the hip completely, which is what a head kick and a clinch need — the two movements Muay Thai is built around.
In practice these work for Muay Thai, kickboxing, K-1 and MMA training, and they are just as usable in boxing for gym work and club shows: the leg stays free and nothing catches during footwork.

Worth knowing: this is the only country short built in horizontal bands. The effect is clear: the silhouette is cut in three across, which reads very differently from the vertical-panel flags and stands out on a ring. For sanctioned amateur bouts, check the corner colour your association assigns.
Getting the size right
European cut — take your usual size. Most Muay Thai shorts on the market are Thai-made and sized accordingly, which is why almost every seller tells you to order one size up. These are cut to European sizing, so that correction does not apply. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where the bulk of the market stops at XXL. The elastic waistband absorbs a swing in waist measurement, which helps through a fight camp. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.

Frequently asked questions
Do Muay Thai shorts run small?
Thai-made shorts do, which is why the usual advice is to order one size up. These are a European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes run from XS to 4XL. Between two sizes, or if you wear a groin guard, take the larger one.
What is the difference between Muay Thai shorts and boxing shorts?
Muay Thai shorts sit above the knee with a high side split and a wide elastic waistband, which clears the hip for kicks and clinch work. Boxing shorts run longer with the waistband above the navel, marking the low-blow line. These are the Muay Thai cut, and they carry over to boxing training without trouble.
Who is the most famous Dutch fighter?
Ramon Dekkers, from Breda, eight-time world champion with 185 wins from 210 fights. In 1992 he became the first foreigner named Thailand’s fighter of the year. He died in 2013 at the age of 43.
What is Dutch style Muay Thai?
A pressure style built on boxing combinations into low kicks, developed in Dutch gyms and carried into Thai stadiums by Ramon Dekkers and the fighters around him. Where the Thai game favoured range and the clinch, the Dutch school walks forward and throws hands. Thai fighters adapted to it.
How do you wash Muay Thai shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and never put an iron directly on the panels. Skip the fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
Are these unisex?
Yes. The cut is the same for men and women — only the size changes, and the range opens at XS, which is not true everywhere.
