The dark patina is laid over the whole surface, then taken back off the high points: the ribs come up light while the grooves between them stay dark. That contrast is what makes the relief readable from three metres / ten feet, where an evenly polished bangle would look smooth.
A ribbed surface from glove to glove
The body of the bangle is not smooth: it is ringed with tight, regular bands along its whole length between the two ends. The relief is clear under the thumb and catches light in short strips.
The two glove ends
Each end finishes in a sculpted boxing glove — rounded solid fist, thumb standing clear, cuff banded with a ring — carrying the same patina as the body: the edges of the glove come up light against a dark ground.
